Wow!!!,

I just happened to stumble upon a few tracks from this album on their myspace page. I was actually on the Juliana Hatfield page, and noticed "Juliette and the Licks" as one of her friends. Now, I had heard of them through some hollywood gossip TV rag like Entertainment Tonight, YEARS AGO...and I thought..."yeah, Juliette Lewis, probably just another in a long line of actresses who thinks she's a singer. She's hot, but no, I won't be buying her music...its probably crap." Well, I was VERY WRONG! I went to their myspace page and was immediately sucked in. Juliette has a great, raunchy, voice and the instrumentals match it. The intrumentals are excellent too, BTW...kind of bluesy punk (heh...now isn't THAT a cool combination!) Over [...] bucks is a bit much to pay for ANY CD, so I went to another on-line vendor to buy it for almost half. The five tracks I heard on their myspace page though...RAWKED!!!

This is a straight forward, onward moving ROCK ALBUM with some flairs of punkishness. I would never have known about Juliette and her band and her skills till I saw her perform on LONDON LIVE on an HD Channell. This album rocks! Get it!

my absolute fave song is Hot Kiss and you gotta love Death of a whore, but all songs are great on this cd. cd insert does have the lyrics and with the song death of a whore i am surprised it doesnt have a explicit language warning. dont miss out on this CD is is a must!!! even if you havent bought her cds before this would be a great one to begin with, it is far the best one she has done so far.

ROCK n ROLL!!!!!,
This review is from: Four on the Floor (Dig) (Audio CD)
This is the U.S realease of the album. Straight out it ROCK'S! My god this band is amazing, and don't be fooled by people who say, oh she's just an actor wanna be rocker. NO she is not, Juliette Lewis is the real thing. She's also not just the lead singer, she writes the lyrics, which are great. My absolute favorite is "Inside The Cage". It's dark, scary, and absolutly wonderfull. It's a very well rounded album, with both hard edged and softer song's. I had the chance to see them live, a few day's ago, and if you ever get the chance, DON'T PASS IT UP.

Kickin Licks,

This CD has IT! There's something about it that gets you going and won't let go. I've always liked Juliette as an actress, but didn't really know she had a band. Anyway, I picked the CD up on a whim, and needless to say, all the songs kick. It's interesting, all the songs are straight ahead rock n roll, but the last two are a little different. Great change up. I especially like the untitled track 12. Lets hear it again!!!

Holy...man, this girl can do it! My discovery of Four on the Floor was typical of down the rabbit hole, one thing leads to another internet surfing. It went like this: I was watching a little bit of From Dusk til Dawn (yes, I admit it, nothing else was on and Salma Hayek is a incredible), and I remarked to myself how young Juliette Lewis looked. So, naturally, I had to google her to find out her age, then on to Wikipedia, and oh, that's right, it says she had a band. I think I already knew that. Sure. Another actor with a band. Terrific. I wonder if Russell Crowe is backing her up on bass with Kevin Costner blowin' harmonica, hah!Just for kicks I look up Juliette and the Licks, and find a site with free samples. I play the first track, and, what the...naw...I can't believe it. She gets it on! If someone put her music in a lineup with recordings of four other female singers and asked you to pick which was was Juliette Lewis, You'd get it wrong. Her voice is unexpectedly powerful, but it's more than that. It's really an instrument--it can be playful, raunchy, haunting, neo-punk, blues, whatever. The band is tight, and the lyrics are on par with the majority of popular music happening right now (not that that particular bar is set too high). I found this five years after it came out, and I can't help but think, what the heck happened? Why isn't Juliette Lewis now thought of as the famous singer/songwriter who also acts? Part of it could be that her straightforward style doesn't resonate with bored music critics eternally on the lookout for the next trend. I think her success as an actress has also hurt her music career--it's easy to dismiss her as yet another actor with a hobby without even investigating. Don't fall into that trap--check her out. I'm glad I did. I've got a big 'ole smile on my face as I type this listening to "Killer".

Blind Rage,

This album is way more intense than Juliette's first. It's almost borderline punk or speed metal. The first 9 songs are thrash metal intensity. You have to be careful to drive while this cd is playing. I played it one day and I noticed I was driving faster and more agressively. I even got into a road rage incident while this cd was playing, totally cussing out a driver because I was so keyed up. My favourite song is Smash and Grab, the first song on the cd. I also like Purgetory Blues. This is definately vampire music. This album does mellow out towards the end, with one semi cool ballad, Are You Happy. There is one hidden track at the very end. I hope Juliette and The Licks do another album. She's a theatrical singer with heart and intensity and the band compliments her voice .

Juliette is clearly very talented! Though the sound quality on this CD is not the best, as she is often drowned out by her band (which are not very good).
She deserves a better band and a better engineered CD. However, the girl knows how to rock!

I really like this CD! This is one of those recordings that I can't understand why it's not extremely popular. Maybe because there is no promotion from the label, or maybe because there is a bias against the already-famous Juliette Lewis in a music setting. I think the familiar voice of Lewis is one of the things that helps make this CD so listenable. The other thing is that the songs are great and the band rocks. They kind of remind me of Ednaswap, with some AC/DC and The Donnas mixed in. Really Juliette and the Licks have a distinct sound all their own - yet well within the punk/classic rock realm far enough to make the music catchy and memorable. I love the "AC/DC meets The Who" intro of the song Get Up (Won't Get Fooled Again combined with I Put The Finger On You!), that's one of my favorite tracks. Other faves include Hot Kiss, Sticky Honey, Killer, and the incredible ballad Are You Happy. If you like fast-ish fun rock n' roll with attitude, check out Four On The Floor, a true hidden gem.
