5.0 out of 5 stars One of my all-time favorite movies
I absolutely love this movie. I've seen it quite a few times and I still find it beautiful. I've cried during multiple scenes througout the film and even if I just catch the last few minutes I find myself crying. It's a wonderful tale.

3.0 out of 5 stars Craig Wasson: another offbeat movie role
I have been searching(unsuccessfully)for about five years for this movie. I live in Northern Indiana, and while some of the so called depictions of scenery here are not right, the movie does bring back some of the trials and tribulations of a personal nature that I went through living in this part of the US. Craig Wasson, as usual, in his offbeat characterizations,...

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my all-time favorite movies, January 30, 2004
This review is from: Four Friends [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I absolutely love this movie. I've seen it quite a few times and I still find it beautiful. I've cried during multiple scenes througout the film and even if I just catch the last few minutes I find myself crying. It's a wonderful tale.
Now, to be a bit more specific, it's about four friends (surprise!) who grow up together during the 60's and come in and out of eachother's lives. There is the whole thing about the torment in the 60's and "free spirits" but it really upholds the traditional values, showing the faults in this type of adolescent thinking. There is also a oldworld-newworld conflict because Danilo, the main character, is an immigrant from Yugoslavia.
There are so many levels of plot, but the emotion is what makes this film special. There are extreme moments of elation followed by bitter sadness and depression. It's real, it's beautiful, and it's a must see!

5.0 out of 5 stars Astonishing!, November 27, 2000
This review is from: Four Friends [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is Arthur Penn's greatest movie and should have taken its place as an American classic long ago. It drops a narrative bombshell halfway through that comes closer than anything else I've seen to evoking the traumas that America experienced in the 60s. It's wonderful to have it avaliable on video at last, but the luminous cinematography by Ghislain Cloquet deserves to be seen on widescreen DVD (any hope of this, MGM?).

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally released : GET IT NOW !, October 13, 2005
By
This review is from: Four Friends (DVD)
Four friends is the most beautiful, romantic, dramatic, American fresque I have ever watched. The actors are wonderful and true. The story is human and deep as a great novel can be. I have been waiting for a dvd editions for years, sending many e-mails and finally my dream came true. I have just watched it, and it doesn't get old. Thank you Mr Penn, thank you Craig Wasson, my dear Danilo, this film will remain in my heart for ever, just like the little flute medoly Danilo plays when he arrives in the USA from his Yougoslavian home. And a great thank you to the editors for finally releasing it, with a special gift to me : the french language subtitles ! :o)
... did I mention FOUR FRIENDS is my favourite movie ever (OK Orson, after Citizen Kane... ;o) ) ?

5.0 out of 5 stars Fate!!!!, December 30, 2001

I searched for this video for years and, finally, I just stopped looking. Since I currently purchase primarily DVDs, most of my searches are in the DVD category. It is fate that a friend was searching VHS movies and I happened to mention "Four Friends" - he found it!!! This movie paints a wonderful picture of life, friendships, love and family in the 60's. Each actor plays a special part in the film and in my heart. Thank you, Craig!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars The most awesome movie you've never heard of, March 19, 2009
By
This review is from: Four Friends (DVD)
If you're lucky enough to have seen this movie, you've probably had the experience of telling dozens of people about it, and receiving blank looks in response. It's one of those great movies that no one seems to have seen.

It covers a decade (the 1960's) in the lives of four friends, with most of the emphasis being on two of them (Danny and Georgia). It covers so much ground that it's difficult to describe: love, friendship, sex, social issues, coming of age, defining yourself, what is worth fighting for, etc. IT CONTAINS THE FUNNIEST BARFIGHT EVER IN THE HISTORY OF THE UNIVERSE. It contains one of the most surprising plot turns I have ever seen (if you see this coming, my hat is off to you). I cry and laugh every time I watch it.

It also manages to profoundly show the various conflicts that ripped at the fabric of American society in the 60's without trashing America itself.

Just get it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Craig Wasson: another offbeat movie role, October 29, 2000
This review is from: Four Friends [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I have been searching(unsuccessfully)for about five years for this movie. I live in Northern Indiana, and while some of the so called depictions of scenery here are not right, the movie does bring back some of the trials and tribulations of a personal nature that I went through living in this part of the US. Craig Wasson, as usual, in his offbeat characterizations, keeps this movie on its edge with his performance of a disillusioned 60's child going through some of the problems of growing up a baby boomer with all the attendent problems of too much, too soon.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Complete Mystery, November 17, 2007
This review is from: Four Friends (DVD)
It's a complete mystery to me how and why this wonderful film was buried and never received the acclaim it deserved. I dicovered it in the Albertson's rental section in the early 90s. After watching it I couldn't understand how I had never even heard of it before.

5.0 out of 5 stars Correction, May 8, 2011
This review is from: Four Friends (DVD)
The Amazon.com review for this movie needs a correction. The review names the location as (Easy Chicago) when the location name should be East Chicago. EC is an actual city/town in NW Indiana; also southeast of Chicago, Illinois.
