This review is from: Four Jills in a jeep, (Hardcover)
"Four Jills in a Jeep" is an entertaining look at the actions of four women entertainers who want to do their part and support the troops overseas during World War 2. Written by Carole Landis, she, along with Kay Francis, Mitzi Mayfair and Martha Raye, spent several months in England and then North Africa supporting the boys fighting overseas. They endured great hardships as well as real danger, including several German air raids while in North Africa. Considering how many times they could have died just flying to various locations to put on shows is amazing. At one point the B-24 bomber they were traveling in caught fire and had to made an emergency landing. If you'd like an insiders view of an aspect of the war that is almost unknown, I highly recommend this book. It was well worth the time to read. |
