5.0 out of 5 stars Exciting and Real account of WWII Entertaining!, February 10, 2006

Wow! It's hard to sum up my feelings about this book. I'm a huge Carole Landis fan anyway! This book must be held as Carole's autobiography--and it's a success! She describes the war in England and Africa, the soldiers she meets, the frightening moments performing near the front lines. It also becomes a love story--Carole met her third husband while on this tour. Carole was a courageous woman--this was the first of two long tours she did for our "boys over there." This book is a very enjoyable read, full of excitement! It should be appealing to those interested in WWII, the USO, Carole Landis, Kay Francis, Martha Raye or Mitzi Mayfair.

This review is from: Four Jills in a jeep, (Hardcover)
"Four Jills in a Jeep" is an entertaining look at the actions of four women entertainers who want to do their part and support the troops overseas during World War 2. Written by Carole Landis, she, along with Kay Francis, Mitzi Mayfair and Martha Raye, spent several months in England and then North Africa supporting the boys fighting overseas.

They endured great hardships as well as real danger, including several German air raids while in North Africa. Considering how many times they could have died just flying to various locations to put on shows is amazing. At one point the B-24 bomber they were traveling in caught fire and had to made an emergency landing.

If you'd like an insiders view of an aspect of the war that is almost unknown, I highly recommend this book. It was well worth the time to read.
