4.0 out of 5 stars local boston saxist w/ fresh sound, December 14, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Four Mad Men in La La Land (Audio CD)
French tenor/soprano saxist Philippe Crettien (backed by sidemen Zinno, Peckham, and Gullotti) plays with a dry, yet warm tone on this set of all originals. The ensemble, which has played together for over 5 years, is extremely tight and plays with almost telepathic communication. The tune "Mott's Up" and the minor blues "Trap-er Kee-per" are highlights of the album. The rhythm section is outstanding, also contributing much of the material for the album. The group takes many chances, and produces a fresh sound of modern jazz.
