Sundowner is great!,

I love this CD. The lyrics are great and of course the vocals are too. Anyone who is a fan of the Lawrence arms will love this. The only band i can compare this sound to is fingers cut mega machine. In a world full of horrible music, it is always great to find a new band that is as good as sundowner.

I purchased this when it first came out, and I've listened to it at least once a week since. Such an excellent album. I can only hope a second album appears at some time...hopefully, soon!

If you like the melancholy, mellow side of the Lawrence Arms, you'll love this album. There are a couple of Lawrence Arms songs on here you will recognize, redone acoustically, as is the rest of this record. Overall, this record just keeps on growing on me, and will be a major part of my music rotation.

Early Sleeper for Album of the Year,

This review is from: Four One Five Two (Audio CD)
Sundowner is Chris McCaughan's from the Lawerence Arms solo project which he has been working towards for the last year or so and it has really paid off. This album is fantastic! Deep, moving songwriting, variation in style and tempo throughout the 12 tracks, and subtle touches of strings and female vocals to fill out the acoustic tunes.
If you are familiar with the Larry Arms then you should know what to expect from Chris's lyrics and vocals, but the stlye is some what of a departure. There are many mid tempo "singer/songwriter" style tunes but chris also keeps the album fresh with many up-tempo tracks and a few droning slow tracks about the dregs of life. Chirs brings to life the troubles of being stuck in a place while knowing its time to move on. Songs such as taffic haze, an alternate version of boatless boozecruise and endless miles are easily relatable to all people looking for freshness and change in a life that can become easily repetitive. I suggest this album strongly to all that like moving words over a steady, loud, acoustic guitar. |
