Giving your Cat a Bath is generally unwise... I try to do it only when there is some dire need (e.g., when my cat conceived an inexorable curiosity about the flip-top garbage can, and ended up falling in). This stuff makes them extremely soft, and when I occasionally use it on them, they end up being quite happy (the actual washing part is pretty harrowing, though). It smells like that Johnson & Johnson "no more tears" baby shampoo. Maybe it is, but with a picture of a kitten on the bottle.

That said, I would not wash your baby with this. Just to be safe.

My cat is too fat to clean herself, so I have to give her a bath once a week. This shampoo is gentle enough to use once a week, and it leaves her coat silky smooth!

i give this product a 1 star. The reason is: used this both on my cat and dog. both got very sick when this product was used on them. will never use it again. Find it peculiar that there are on ingrediants listed on the package. please use caution.

My Persian kitty had ongoing dermatitis. I purchased this thinking the lanolin and other moisturizers would help, which it absolutely did. Not only did the "derm grit" disappear, but my kitty stopped itching! Her hair is gorgeous! Its soft, smells lovely and she is prancing around like she just left the salon. This is my first review for amazon, I had to share for my fellow cat lovers!

We rescued a Shar Pei mix from our local shelter a few years ago. We noticed right away how extremely sensitive skin is. Issues started quickly and we began talking with our vet about it. The vet just said he is sensitive and sold us an expensive shampoo. It worked okay at first, but issues worsened or new ones arose. I couldn't afford $20 a bottle for shampoo so I started looking for alternatives. We've tried everything from so called sensitive shampoos with oatmeal and up to stronger medicine ones. We've changed his food a while back to a natural brand. While in the our local pet shop I came across this shampoo (magic coat medicated) and took it home to try it. I'm very hesitant to use things on him that are "medicated" because many times manufactures use harsh astringents that dry his skin and make matters worse. Well, I was pleasantly surprised to see how quickly the itching ceased. Then within the week rashes went away and his coat became very soft and thick. He also started smelling good. I've used this shampoo routinely for a few months now and have been very happy with the results. I bath him about 1-2 times a month. My dog is happy and really enjoys getting his bath.

Cat shampoo must not be too thick, and this one is just about right! If it's too thick, it just means extra time lathering and rinsing my angry clawed friends. I disagree with another reviewer that this scent lasts a long time. The fact is that it's fairly neutral/baby product smelling, and isn't designed to keep your cats smelling laundry fresh for a week.

I have twin tabby cats, and I used this brand on one, and an expensive Japanese brand on the other in the same bathing session, Magic Coat works just as well. In fact, I kind of prefer Magic Coat, just because it has fewer chemicals.

I don't know if tearless is even a selling point (seems like slight marketing anthropomorphism) since I don't think cats shed tears while crying due to shampoo stinging. I usually don't shampoo their face too much, you can easily use a moistened towel instead, to prevent water/shampoo getting into ears.

Love this shampoo... My rat terrier has been suffering from some pet dander, poor girl all she did was itch all the time. So I ordered this shampoo, hoping it would ease her symptoms. After one bath, she is so calm and relaxed now, no more itching!!! Love this product and will use it from now on.....

My short-haired kittens, now ~12 weeks old, came from the shelter with a free! bonus! infestation of fleas, so I treated the house with frequent vacuuming and very liberal application of Buck Mountain Herbal Gold Parasite Dust, and I treated the animals with Frontline Plus. However, I must have misapplied the Frontline (i.e., put it in a spot where they could lick it off, and didn't sequester the kittens from each other so they couldn't lick the medicine off each other before it dried). The stuff worked dramatically at first, but the kittens never really stopped scratching, and two weeks later, I started seeing adult fleas running around again.

Since I can't reapply Frontline to the boys for another two weeks, this morning I washed them with this shampoo. I lathered each kitten up in turn, starting at his head and paying special attention to his ears, where the fleas like to hang out. I kept the lather on for as close to five minutes as I could, per the directions on the bottle. There were a few dead fleas in the water when I was done, but even as I toweled the boys dry, it was clear that many more live insects were left on their bodies.

Since then, the kittens have been bright, clean, fluffy, soft, . . . and scratching more than ever. Every time I look at them, I see a flea crawling somewhere in their fur--vigorous and seemingly unscathed. It really seems like all this flea shampoo did was to make the fleas more mobile, and more aggressive.

So tomorrow I'll try combing, Victor sticky flea traps, and lots more vacuuming and laundering. I'll use this shampoo for future kitten baths, because I already have it and it seems to leave the boys' fur in a nice state, but I won't expect it to help with the flea problem at all. Disappointing.
