Training Your Puppy with Wee-Wee Pads

  1. Place your puppy on the pad throughout the day to familiarize them with the attractant.
  2. As soon as your puppy goes on the pad immediately reward them with praise and a treat for good behavior.
  3. Quickly replace the soiled pad with a new one.
  4. If your puppy eliminates somewhere other than the pad simply place them back on the pad and encourage them to eliminate there.
  5. Once your puppy is trained inside you can begin teaching them to eliminate outside.
  6. Begin moving the pad towards the door and eventually to the outside area you would like your puppy to go.

For best training results keep your puppy confined to a smaller area such as the bathroom or kitchen.

I've been using wee wee pads of various brands for about 4 years now. I first trained my Havanese to use them as a puppy when I lived in a New York City apartment. I've continued using them for convenience while I am working and because he prefers them to going outside in poor weather. I now have a second puppy who is also training on them.

My absolute favorite brand of wee pads is called Paw Trax. They have an incredibly fast absorbing gel inside that nothing I've found matches. I've only found them online on two dog specialty websites, but they are pretty pricey at about $.50 each! Not wanting to break the bank, I went in search of other brands. At first I discounted Wee Wee Pads because my local pet superstore sold them at such an outrageous price that the Paw Trax were a better deal. Then, I found them on Amazon at a much better price, especially for the 100 pack.

These pads, while not the best in my opinion, absorb fairly quickly and are more absorbent than some of the other bargain brands. The only problem I've experienced with them is that sometimes the pee seems to expand fairly wide when it is absorbing, which means it's only good for one use. Having two dogs, sometimes that means my second dog will not use the pad if I'm not around to change it. Other than that issue, I've never encountered anything else negative such as seeping through the plastic liner, etc.

I'm also fond of the Nature's Miracle Advanced pads which are larger and better suited for multiple uses. While these don't seem to absorb as quickly, they don't expand out as much. That combined with their larger size makes them ideal for my multi-dog home. Had I only had a single dog though, they might be a bit too large unless I was planning on leaving them out for extended periods while away.

Four Paws Wee-Wee Pads are Super Absorbent. My Poodle has been using them for the past 5yrs. When I first got him we were living in a condo in the Las Vegas and was much too hot for his paws to go out for "potty breaks" during the day. He got use to using Wee-Wee pads during the daytime and went out at night.

We moved a few months later to a cooler climate but my work schedule was so chaotic that I never knew when I'd be home to let him out. He was wee-wee pad trained. So I'd leave a wee-wee pad out for those times when I couldn't make it home in time or when he was on allergy medicine that made him drink more water than normal.... and he'd use them.

5yrs have past and I still leave one out for him but normally I return home to find it dry and I let him out and that's that... but for those times when I do find it wet or when he has been ill I'm glad I left them there since I have little to no mess to clean.

(Note: these are also great for Seniors who can't take their dogs out or who do not want to go out after nightfall).

I am already on my 3rd bag of these. They're good. I don't have any leaking issues. My dog gets it automatically he needs to do his business on this too.
No odors as well, unless you leave it out there for say 4-5 days, which you're not supposed to because it gets flooded.

While some other pads like little stinker, nature's miracle does absorb better and more, they're more expensive.
This is cheap, and I prefer changing the pads more frequently than leaving them there for 7 days just because they can absorb more.
I change them every 1-3 days depending.

So for all of that, I'd say this is very good.

Our dog has been using these pads for years. We originally got them because we lived on a busy street and didn't want to let her outside at night and risk she might run out in the street. Later, she developed diabetes and, with both of us working, she would have "wee wee" several times a day. These were a life saver. They are absorbant enough to both capture and keep everything in one spot (LOL!) We highly recommened them.

These pads are much better than IRIS Neat 'n Dry. The pads are large and attract the dogs to pee on the pad and not on the edge like the IRIS Neat 'n Dry. Somewhat expensive but well worth the cost!

I have purchased this same thing in box . It was very good quality .

However, this time I bought this 100-pack bag version. Each piece of wee-wee pad is so thin that the pee would leak and it looks different from the box version .

I am not recommending the bag version of wee-wee pad. It looks fake .

We use these pads all the time and they are usually fine a actually our preferred - this recent bag of pads was different. They seem to be missing some padding? They leaked right thru and they smell bad. This bag is definatedly inferior to the pads we purchased previously.

*****Update - since writing my review I have changed my mind about this product. The first small package was great but I'm finding that with my second purchase, a 150-count box, about half the pads do not absorb well at all. ***** When my usual Iris brand puppy pads were dropped from the Prime free shipping program I decided to try these in the smallest quantity just in case they weren't up to snuff. I have a cat who will poop in her litter boxes but won't wee in them. I have to keep her highness supplied with several "urination stations" (small low-sided litter pans with folded baby blanket and wee-wee pad on top) lest she opt for the carpet. I was afraid these pads would be so different she would not use them but she does use them and they are actually better than the Iris in a couple of ways. They are larger than the regular size Iris and the plastic backing is a blue that even with my low functioning eyeballs I can tell without feeling which side is which. And I think these pads are more absorbent too. I'll be buying the 150 pack next. The 150 pack is a rigid cardboard box . It is much easier to remove the pads from than the plastic bag-like packaging of the Iris brand.
