Not Moses' Best, Alright Play,

This review is from: Four of Us, The (Samuel French Acting Editions) (Paperback)
I am theatre major in college and bought this play because I'm a big fan of Itamar Moses' other plays such as Bach at Leipzig and Outrage. This play tells the story of two (yes two, not four) friends and their friendship overtime, but not in chronological order. Each scene represents a different time and the play spans their friendship over a period of time while exploring how success or lack thereof can impact a friendship. There are some good monologues in this play and some funny parts, but overall I didn't like this as well as Moses' other works. I haven't seen it performed, maybe it really comes alive on stage, but for me reading this play wasn't as enjoyable as many other plays I've read by Moses and other contemporary playwrights.

Oh my! When I saw Jerusalem I said: this play is so brilliant it must be easy to write. WhenI saw this load of mush I said: it is probably more difficult to write a horrible play. |
