Book Description

Capital Cares November 1, 1999
The Fourteen Friends who wrote this book have maintained and cherished each other's friendship since high school days in Arlington, Virginia. They include a neurologist, a psychiatric nurse practitioner, a drug and alcohol counselor, teachers, and small business owners. Over the years, their conversation and concerns have progressed from boyfriends, husbands, children and careers to caring for their aging parents. As in the past, they continue to share advice and information along with laughter and tears. Now, in this very readable guide, they share personal anecdotes and solutions to difficult situations faced in their own caregiving experiences with loved ones. Each chapter covers a wealth of information and gives helpful tips and resources garnered from their work and research. Knowing how important it is for a caregiver to reflect and plan, this interactive guide provides you with ample space for observations on a loved one's condition, vital emergency information, appointments, and your own ideas.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book to help deal with the stress of caregiving, August 6, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Fourteen Friends Guide to Eldercaring (Capital Cares) (Hardcover)
A superior book to help all ages deal with the feelings associated with caregiving to aging parents. It is a guide to help deal with the non-system of healthcare, healthcare financing, and disjointed services. The key contribution of the book is the interactive format which encourages recording of vital information prior to the time that it is needed in crisis. The 14 friends have made a great contribution of their own experiences and honestly shared emotions to help guide others through tough times. The book is be a must read for all people facing the care of parents. After you read it you will be comforted by the clear understanding that you are not alone and there are sources of help!

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring in so many ways., August 6, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Fourteen Friends Guide to Eldercaring (Capital Cares) (Hardcover)
This book gives advice on both practical aspects of caring forthe eldery and the more emotional aspect of understanding theiractions. I found that I made quite a few realizations about the behavior of my grandparents (any one of which would have made the book worth my time). The section for recording information such as "Grocery stores that deliver" gave me great ideas about ways to improve their access to things they need. There are so many little things that make a huge impact on our elderly loved ones. This book gives great suggestions. I highly recommend it.
