5.0 out of 5 stars the fourth wise man
I was crying most of the time, a wonderful story of a man who was seeking the Truth, a life long search that ended in victory, he found Jesus Christ, but to his amazement, he had seen him all along because of the verse Jesus gave him, "whatever you have done to the least of these you have done for me". On the mans search, he stopped to help a leper colony and...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good message for the family, but not the highest entertainment value
It is great that Amazon had this title available on DVD, because I got it as a gift for my father in law for Christmas. He had complained that he's looked everyone and has been unable to find it.

We watched the film, and it had a great message along with some really good writing. The story and ending are very clever, and it is worth a watch for that reason...

On the mans search, he stopped to help a leper colony and ended up spending his whole life there helping them out. At the end of his life he thought he had missed seeing Jesus but Jesus did appear to him and quoted the above verse. He had been with Jesus his whole life since he had been taking care of "the least of these".

5.0 out of 5 stars A moving experience - a living Gospel lesson, May 30, 2002
I saw this movie as part of a course on pastoral care of the sick. If anything reinforces the sacred act of ministry to the poor and sick, and to the mystery of healing, it is this film. Would that we could bring that message to the healing professions on a wider basis. I agree with the other reviewers - the acting was superb, but it was the story which has an impact. I especially enjoyed Alan Arkin's character - an alternative model of faithfulness - he does what is asked of him, though he does it under protest.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well, it's definitely better than "The Three Wise Men"!, November 21, 2005

(REAL NAME)
This is one of the best bible related movies I have ever seen. Martin Sheen was outstanding in his performance, and he played his role as a part of the magi wonderfully.

The movie really taught how important it was to help others and care for them. It had M.S. making huge sacrifices in order to help other people. Different ways of doing this are like what Jesus taught in the bible. He tried to find Jesus Christ along with the other three wise men, and he brought along three valuable gems to give Jesus. (One was a pearl) But he ended up giving them all away to other people. It was a wonderful illustration on how giving to others and making personal sacrifices for someone else's sake is like doing it for Jesus.

And by the way, if you are thinking of getting that cartoon called "The Three Wise Men" just because Martin Sheen is in it, forget it. It has ZERO to do with the story of Jesus, and it has all sorts of witchcraft, introducing cults and magic beliefs. If they wanted to do a movie that involved astrology or dark evil demonic sorcerors, then they should have made that instead of making it into a guise of the birth of Jesus Christ.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Family Adventure, January 5, 2000
By
The Fourth Wise Man is one of the most wonderful movies I have ever seen. It's the story of a ficticious fourth wise man that missed the rendezvous with the other three leaving in search of the Holy Child. Not willing to give up, the star(Sheen) decides to head out across the desert with only his slave and the supplies bought with one of the three treasures intended as a sacrifice the the baby Jesus. The story builds from the start and ends in a climactic ending that will leave you breathless and teary eye'd. Martin Sheen and Alan Arkin are wonderful together. This is a definate must see!

5.0 out of 5 stars To moving for words, March 12, 2004
By A Customer
I saw this movie for the first time about 17 yrs. ago. The singles group I was in rented it during a pot luck we had every Friday night.
I can't say in words how this movie drew me in and touched me in my spirit. I would be surprised to learn that the actors involved in this movie wasn't touched as well...
A friend bought the video for me as a gift several years ago and each time I watch it, I get the same heartfelt emotions as I did the first time. And yes, I cry every time.

5.0 out of 5 stars An opinion from an old lawyer/businessman at hjoeko@aol.com, December 22, 1999
By
Harvey J. Osborn (Portland, Oregon, USA) - See all my reviews
The Fourth Wiseman best portrays two of Jesus's most important gospel injunctions: Master, how may I enter you kingdom? Sell all that you have - - , pick up your cross and follow me! AND - That which you do to these, the least of my brethren, you do unto me!

Martin Sheen gives what I consider his best performance as the wisest of the Wise Men and Alan Arkin plays off against him by humorously and incessantly presenting the conventional and wordly wisdoom. Arkin's role brings lightness to a heavy message. If anyone can give me a clue where I can lay my hands on a new copy of this maserpiece, I will be forever in their debt.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent story and life lesson, March 18, 1999
By A Customer
A wonderful story of a man who like the three wise men of the Bible story desires to give the Christ child a material gift. He discovers through a series of ironic circumstances that a more wonderful gift is that of serving those in need in the name of the Messiah. Beautifully done. A great video to show to a youth group followed by discussion.

4.0 out of 5 stars Out of the woodwork, July 26, 2001
This review is from: The Fourth Wise Man - DVD (DVD)
This obscure DVD, although not well know is one of the best movies made. It captures your attention, and then uses that to help you see what life is all about. For anyone who has ever had a dream, or has ever wanted more from his or her life, this movie will move you inside and give you hope. Martin Sheen does a terrific job at telling this captivating story. With little violence and no language it comes to you as an experience the whole family can enjoy.
