There is no question that this product performs perfectly but can be better in certain areas.

I have no faults with this product because it does perform more precise than most consumers need it to be. This gauge measures down to .001mm which is much more than an average everyday consumer will need when calibrated properly.

The unit does have a 'zero' out function so that you can zero out the tool. nice little feature.

My only whine is that the product does feel a bit cheap, being made entirely out of plastic. Although it is only ~$15 bucks I wouldn't have mind spending a few bucks more to have a metal one. This is in no way the products fault, so yes I would recommend this to a friend.

Also, it comes with a protective case AND an extra watch battery.

I have had the same old tread-depth gauge for 25 years. Purely mechanical, probably cost $2 back then and small enough to clip to your shirt pocket. But when I saw this on Amazon, I put it in my wish list and waited and waited before putting it in the cart. It was priced right but the shipping would push it above the "what the heck" level into the "will I really use it" category. In a moment of weakness one day, I decided to take the plunge. Click, click, click and pretty soon it was in my mail box.

I have tested it on my aging BMW and low and behold, I am in trouble! It is time to "re-tire..." Forget about the shipping charges, now I know I have tires that are right at the limit of safety. For my money, this gadget has already paid for itself!

It's easy to use. It's accurate and precise (i.e., the readings are reproducible) and it's seems made well enough to last a few years. I especially liked the spare battery that came with the kit.

I own a lot of cars so having a tool like this really helps.

Works very well, easy to read gauge and thoughtful features like "HOLD" so you can get the gauge into tricky spots and measure then bring it back to your eyes to see the results.

Really happy with this purchase and not skimping and going with a non-digital/mechanical gauge. Recommended and I expect many years of service from this unit.

This gage is worth the money.
Comes with a little case, which is nice.
The gage holds its reading until you release it, that works well.

I purchased this item to assist me in maintaining the tire rotation on my Jeep. I like to rotate in the spare, so that I maximize the time between tire replacements. By using this extremely accurate gage, I insure that I always rotate out the most worn tire.

It works great and the numbers are very easy to read. The hold button is awesome for taking the measurements on the inner tread, up inside the fender well. The fact that it came with a handy little case and an extra battery was nice.

I brought it for catching up with tire rotation. I don't need the resolution but if there's a cheaper digital one I will get it. Digital means no guessing time, saving effort of my eyesight, and I can take as many readings one after the other.

I do not just need past or fail thread depth reading. I need to compare different tires, and the inner and outer depths of each tire. It does what it's suppose to do.

Precision instruments have to be plastic. How much it cost for a high precision metal cast as compared to a plastic one? Metal cast cannot have very sharp edge, imagine that.

My Dyson vacuum cleaner used some very high quality plastic, virtually bullet proof, and look new after a few years of abuse.
