Good whistle. I am a sports official and like the mini fox 40 better than the original. Took some time to get used to because of the cushioned grip, but I love it.

3.0 out of 5 stars I'd like it more if it were louder
It's an "okay" whistle. I like the cushioning, but it's not as loud as I would have liked.

It's probably okay for a kid's sport coach. I use mine as an emergency whistle as I walk around DC, but will likely replace it with something louder.

I do love the purple color!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Good, July 13, 2010

If you have the space for it, not that it's overly large, this is a fine whistle. Plenty loud, sturdy, light weight and visible.

Along with a flashlight, a knife and a weapon, this is an everyday carry item for me. I keep it on a key-chain.

My dog had been hurt while on a walk and my wife had gotten word back to me that she was at a certain location yet when I went there I couldn't find her. I wound up having to holler for her and it still took quite a while before I found her. A whistle would have been handy and, unlike a phone, there are no batteries that can go dead.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Glow" glows in the dark, December 24, 2008

This review is from: Fox 40 Mini Whistle (Misc.)
Although the Mini, at up to 115 db, isn't as loud as the Micro/Rescue Howler, at up to 122 db, nor as compact to carry, it is easier to blow.

What I especially like about the Mini is that "Glow" is luminous.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good whistle, high in pitch, December 15, 2010

I use this everyday in all weather conditions. Definitely gets the job done. I got the red, which is easy to find in my bag. The mini whistle definately has a higher pitch, which I don't like quite as much as the normal Fox 40. I don't regret the purchase though

This whistle is virtually unbreakable, highly visible in yellow, & very loud. Can be blown when wet. Surperior design to other whistles. Required safety equipment for all paddlers. Attach with to lifejacket zipper pull so that it will always be available. I bought a bunch of these for door prizes for our local paddling club.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Product & Prompt Delivery, September 15, 2007
This review is from: Fox 40 Mini Whistle (Sports)
This item was exactly as described in the item description. It was in the original packaging and is in excellent condition. I am very satisfied and I highly recommend this seller and product to everyone. The whistles that FOX 40 makes are very high quality. I used them for my lifeguards at a camp this summer and they work very well.

5.0 out of 5 stars anti-Dog Whistle, September 19, 2010

Anyone that walks often should have one of these on a good heavy string or flexible chord hanging around your neck. I use a nylon trot line fishing chord. If a vicious dog approaches you in an aggressive way whatever size the animal is when it gets about 10 feet away blow this whistle as hard as you can and most of the time the animal will be stunned enough by the shrill sound that it will leave you alone or give you time for your next move in my case hitting the 4 legged predator with my walking stick, use the curved end for more hitting power b/c you are going to get 1 hit before you have canine teeth stuck in your legs or worse. I walk 4.6 miles per day 1300+ miles per year and have been walking now since 1997 and have been attacked more times than the fingers on both hands. I cannot tell you the dogs heads that this whistle has saved from receiving the wrath of my cane. I suggest you wrap the end of the whistle with some heavy black electrical tape to give your teeth some padding b/c when you have the likes of a pit-bull coming at you you're bitting down very hard on the whistle enough to crack a front tooth. Even 2 legged predators it confuses them just enough for you to either get the hell away or strike at the head, legs or groin, make the 1st hit count!!!!!!! I will not be terrorized walking my neighborhood's streets by any 2 or 4 legged predator and this little whistle is my 1st line of defense to an attacker!!! Once you have been attacked you'll never be w/o it and pepper spray, it really gets your attention, big-time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh, btw you are 100% within the law to defend yourself against attacking dogs or humans. As a cop told me, "Sir your lucky you had that cane"!!!!! You will get criticized by other walkers and more than likely called paranoid but if you ever get attacked you'll thank God you had something to defend yourself with. One other thing after you get it attached to the string practice getting the whistle to your mouth several times when your walking b/c you are going to have just a split second to react to the attacker before you are hurt, you don't want the whistle swinging around, tie a loop in the string just above the whistle so it will stay close by your body. Folks if this happens it gets serious very, very quickly and it almost has to be second nature to you to get the whistle to your mouth then getting ready for your next strike whatever that is!!!! Have fun walking/running just stay prepaid for the worse!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Noisy Cricket, November 8, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Fox 40 Mini Whistle (Misc.)
I bought this after the recent string of hurricanes and earthquakes; you never know when it might come in handy. It is small enough to slip onto my keyring and comfortably be in my pocket at all times, and let me tell you this thing is LOUD! You need to give it a nice gust of air to activate all three pitches, but watch out once you do. I advise covering your ears or at least try to cup your hands around your mouth to try and direct the sound away from you.

I recommend the bright colors (I chose neon), you never know when you might need to reach for it in low light conditions. A must for any avid campers or hikers.
