An avid home cook that is a collector of both cookbooks and cooking gadgets writes this review. I purchased this product because my cooking has progressed to the point that I am as concerned about presentation as I am the taste of the food I fix for my family. I use this product to make fancy cuts on cookies, pie dough and raw vegetables. I have summarized my observations of this product below:

Pros:

1. Easy to change the shape of the cutout

2. Small size means easy to store

3. Excellent for cookie dough as well as chilled pastry and raw vegetables

4. Easy to clean by hand

5. Makes a very impressive cookie or pie crust that is deceptively simple

Cons:

1. Of limited usefulness but still quite fun (It wouldn't be the first kitchen gadget I would add to my collection)

2. Small size means it should not go into the dishwasher unless you want them to end up in the bottom

If you are wondering what you could do with these, here are some suggestions:

1. Happy Birthday on a top pie crust (cut out dough from the top crust or add dough letters to the top)

2. Message cut out of the top of a quesadilla

3. Monogrammed cookies

4. Monogram tea sandwiches

5. Cut out letters from cooked veggies and use the rim of a plate to send a message

6. Monogrammed french fries of polenta (the potato will needed to be thinner than normal to successfully cut it out)

The options are really endless if you are creative. I think messages in lunches are a nice way to remind those that you love that you are thinking about them.

Overall, if you are looking for way to enhance the appearance of the food you serve your family you will get a lot of use out of these.

Gosh I really didn't expect them to be this small. 1 inch high by 3.4inch wide. I'm going to be making Q cookies for days for the kindergarten class. I must have missed the measurements when I went to order these. Oh well fun for the children to make their name.

5.0 out of 5 stars Getting kids to eat healthy foods.... March 5, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase
We've been doing all kinds of tricks to get our son to eat more, and to eat healthy foods. Since he's preschool-age and learning his letters, these have been perfect! I cut deli meats, cheeses, bell peppers, melon, etc., for his meals. Sometimes I spell out a word or his name, or sometimes I just put in a few letters. I've even been able to coordinate the 'letter of the week' with his preschool teacher. We had fun putting everyone's initials in crust on the top of personal pot pies.

One tip - since they're small, have a few toothpicks handy to poke the food back out after cutting it! Depending on the food, it can stick. Take care of these - wash and then dry well. I usually put the dry cutters on a small cookie sheet in my toaster oven and turn it on warm. This gets them completely dry and prevents rusting!

I used these to make short bread jambes. They were wonderful, and worked beautifully. Only problem, I can't get them all back in the tin

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for cutting fondant!
I LOVE these cutters. I bought them to cut out letters in fondant for my cakes. I don't think they would be good for cookies considering how small they are, but they are perfect... Read more

2.0 out of 5 stars Really really really small letters
The letters are very small. I am not sure how a person would make things with them. They also had a lot of rust on them.
