Not a mesh chinois at all. It's a China cap; a solid metal cone with holes stamped into it.

It's well made, solid, and beautiful. Good piece of equipment.

But don't be fooled by the picture - I think it's the low resolution of the photo that makes it look like this has a mesh screen, like a chinois.

But it doesn't.

Both the stand and the wooden "pusher" are great. The holes are too large for what I was originally intending to use the chinois for, which was making seedless raspberry jam, but I will still use it for other recipes. I probably would not have bought it if I could have seen a good picture of the holes.

This would have worked perfectly if the strainer holes were a little smaller. I used mine to make tomato juice and there was a little too much pulp caused by the holes being just a tad too big.

I you are envisioning the huge light weight aluminum "china cap/chinois" that grandma had...this is not it LOL! This one is 7 inches tall, 7 inches around. It works very well and fits into a large cooking pot; no need to strain foods in another container and then transfer to a pot. I love the stand rim design...slotted so the handle of the chinois does not slip around while you are working! This is very sturdy stainless steel construction and a bit heavier than grandma's old aluminum set; it is designed to last!

So, this is actually a china cap, not a chinois. Although the picture shown is a mesh seive, ie chinois, the product shipped is a perforated steel, collander type set up which is actually a china cap. Great for straining soup but not for custards, fruit purees etc.

Had to return it.

This was a hard to find product that was an excellent price and delivered quickly from a trusted retailer. I am very pleased I was able to find this at such a reasonable price. It is great for straining fruit for jams. I love the stand.

We were doing tomatoes and had no way to make old fashioned tomatoe juice so I found this product and had it in 3 days and we went to work and I mean work and I used this chinois hard and allot of tomatoes went through this little guy. easy clean up in the dish washer by hand it was hard. but its a little jewel.we made jelly too and used it on the grapes and it worked great too...buy it you wont go wrong with this product. oh yes to hurry up the process turn the wooden thing over and press the juice out then turn it over and go round one way then go backwards and then go forward...

It is smaller than I imagined and I thought the handle would come off, makes it harder to store. Just have to do small batches and be creative.

This Chinois set isn't as strong as the older model. I used once only for making grape juicy and the stand has bended and the mesh looks like coming apart. Very disappointed!!

I purchased this item with the intention of using it to make homemade applesauce, and it was everything I wanted, and then some. My grandmother has one, of course MUCH older, but this one looked almost exactly like it. Durable, clean looking, and perfect. I couldn't imagine making applesauce without it!
