Great M&P - with caveats for some cuisines,
By
This review is from: Fox Run 4-Inch Marble Mortar and Pestle (Kitchen)
I've had my marble mortar & pestle for going on ten years and love it. Naturally it gets a lot of use! One caution for those just embarking: if you love Indian and Asian cuisines as I do, Do Be Aware that marble M&P's (just like marble and granite countertops) ARE somewhat porous to very fine particles and therefore they WILL stain. Turmeric, in particular will provide a healthy yellow glow to your M&P long after you've used your curry blend. I don't like to wash my M&P in the dishwasher as the M&P will absorb the detergent and impart an odd flavor (or, on the occasion that I've felt compelled to do this, I rewash it without detergent with temperature on High immediately again).Forewarned is forearmed. Or four-armed, or something... Enjoy!

I really wanted a little one I could put on the back of the oven, but this is nice, too. I like how heavy it is--it stays put while you, um, pestlize. I use it to crack peppercorns for soup and to grind dried herbes de Provence to powder for omelettes and such. It's 4 1/8 inches high and 4 inches across, with a bowl 3 inches across and 2 inches deep. The base is round, about 3 inches across. The pestle is 5 inches long.

I'm not sure what happened with the person who bought this and had it break the second time they used it, but I love it. It is heavy and sturdy, easy to clean with soap and water, and it does a great job crushing herbs and spices. What more can you ask for?
