5.0 out of 5 stars Best one out there

If you are a serious cook this is the tenderizer you have been looking for. My first tenderizer was the "hammer" type tenderizer. It did an honest job tenderizing the meat along with your knuckles! For obvious reasons, I did not enjoy working with this particular model.

1.0 out of 5 stars Cast Iron Skillet Works Even Better
I saw this product and the reviews and thought about my cast iron skillet. It is a small (8 inch), so easy to pick up and use. Works great! Covers the area of one entire chicken breast. Also use flexible cutting sheet on top and another one under the chicken--works much better than plastic wrap. If you already have a cast-iron skillet, save your money and use that.

If you are a serious cook this is the tenderizer you have been looking for. My first tenderizer was the "hammer" type tenderizer. It did an honest job tenderizing the meat along with your knuckles! For obvious reasons, I did not enjoy working with this particular model.

My second tenderizer was the "stamper" style. Again, it did an honest job but my hand would slip down on the handle and I would begin tenderizing my hand.

My last attempt at procuring a tenderizer I could live with is this particular model. I love the offset handle....no more sore knuckles or hand. The weight is fantastic! Basically, you just let the weight of the tenderizer do most of the work for you. Your job is just guide the plate to it's intended target. The surface of the tenderizing plate lets you cover a wider area than the "hammer or stamper" style. Thus reducing your time in half.

Clean up is easy, either wash by hand or place in the dish washer. So, what's not to like?

This type of design is the preferred type by any serious cook. Unorthodox, at first, but largely superior after a little practice. Slides much better than a conventional mallet, larger surface area provides more even pounding. You can get much thinner meat with this design than any other, in a shorter mount of time.

The only reason I can't give it 5 stars is because I wish it was a little heavier. It is pretty heavy as-is, but if it was a little bigger, it would be perfect.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pounding is fun and quick., May 23, 2007

The heavy weight of this pounder makes the job easy and quick. The meat it flattened but not shreaded like with traditionakl pouders. I suggest holding it with a pot holder for greater comfort.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Nice and Efficient Product, April 6, 2007

I have had one meat pounder for the past 35 years (I still have it) and most of the time it was used as a hammer to pound nails in walls to hang pictures or other items. It was small and did not work well. So I decided to look for another. I love this cast iron pounder. It works very well on chicken breats (even large breasts) and on pork loin also. I have not tried it with beef, but I anticipate the same excellent results. I love the weight and balance. All in all, an excellent purchase.

Cast Iron Meat Pounder

This is a great item for the serious cook to have. I love it. Chef Tools is a great company to deal with. Not only did I get my order in a timely manner, but they also followed up by email regarding the status of another order. I will deal with them in the future!

I had been using an rubber mallet I got at a home improvement store. It was cheap ($4) and functional. The problem was cleaning it and food safety. I decided to upgrade to this meat pounder. I am happy I did. The metal coating and the heft of the cast iron make this a perfect tool to make a paillard, a scalopini, or a perfectly fried chicken breast/thigh for chicken parmigiana. I highly recommend it.

This mean pounder works very well. The fact that it is cast-iron is a good added feature for me. I am definitely a fan of cast-iron products, especially Logic.
