Good for kids,

These cutters make a cute little house but it is not for perfectionists. The cutters are flimsy and go a little cockeye when you are cutting the dough, making for a slightly off-kilter house. But my 5-year-old was the architect and she didn't seem to notice. These cutters will probably only last a few seasons so if you're looking for something sturdier that will last a make a presentation-worthy house these aren't it. If you're just looking to have fun with your kids these cutters will do the job.

A hit with the grandkids!,
This review is from: Fox Run Ten Piece Gingerbread House Cookie Cutter Bake Set (Kitchen)
I used this kit to make gingerbread houses for each of my 4 grandchildren. I let the kids do the decorating. They were absolutely thrilled with the houses! The cookie cutters worked great - I had no problem with them whatsoever. I used the gingerbread recipe from Martha Stewart's 2008 Holiday Special Issue and glued the pieces together with lots of royal icing. The entire project WAS time consuming, but I would tackle it again just to see the looks on my grandchildrens' faces.

First off, the picture is completely different than the description. The picture shows icing tips and what looks like a pastry bag, they are NOT included in the box. The box itself shows on the front a gingerbread man, that cutter is also NOT included. The cutters are completely flimsy and won't last long.
The recipe is CRAP. It is a horribly constructed recipe that turns out disgusting dough that is a failure when baked. I am a very good baker and this recipe is doomed to fail. You'd be better off pulling a recipe from the internet and cutting your own dough with a knife. This is the only year I've gone the "lazy" route, and I'm never doing it again. Third of all, after you waste your money on this CRAP and try to use it, you can't return it. You can only return it if you keep all original packaging and NEVER open the box. It's glaringly obvious that Fox Run doesn't care about satisfying customers or even care about selling a quality product. WASTE OF MONEY AND TIME

We wasted a lot of time on this before the house collapsed. Let's start with the gingerbread recipe itself. I decided to make it figuring that it would make enough for this particular house. It's a very poorly-written recipe (ignorant of such basics as recipe ingredients are listed in the order in which they are used). Nevertheless, I was able to fix it on the fly and the pieces were fine. Well, except for the fact that the cutters are not square and the gingerbread bakes up with bowed edges rather than straight. This is, I believe, the core of the failer of this item.
Ok, next, the icing recipe. Unworkable in my opinion. As written, it creates such a stiff icing that you cannot get it out of your pastry bag; in fact it split mine. I tried to loosen it up then it was too loose. I ended up making royal icing which was ok but not stiff enough. But it allowed me to assemble the house and my daughter then spent an hour adding the candy only to have the roof slide off and the walls cave in. Adding up the time I spent making the gingerbread, making the icing (three times) and my daughter decorating, we wasted a lot of time. Plus it was disappointing to my daughter. In short: don't buy this.

The pieces of this kit don't align properly, so once you cut out the pieces, it's best to use a straight edge and a pizza cutter to keep the edges straight and make assembly easy. The picture of the pieces also show piping tips; this is NOT included in the kit. Two of the 'pieces' not pictured are the instruction sheet and the paper you use to glue the roof together. I am surprised the box the kit came in also didn't count as an extra piece. I had better results making gingerbread houses without this kit. Don't waste your money with this.

I bought this hoping that the other reviews weren't true, but they were. This is a climsy cutter set. Granted, it does make a cute house. You just have to be careful and gentle. I like the house it makes because it's bigger and a little different than just a boxy house. I made a few for people from this and it worked okay. I just wish it was made of more surdy material.

Family Tradition Continues,

Over 30 years ago we started the tradition of making a gingerbread house for Christmas. The kids always looked forward to this tradition and sometimes would invite friends in to help. They are now grown, but a daughter expressed her desire to have a kit of her own, but could not find one. I was surprised to find the identical kit on Amazon and ordered one for each of the children. They were delighted to recieve them for this Christmas. True, the cutters are light weight tin, but treated with care, they will produce a unique gingerbread house and will last a long time. We have also found the recipes to be perfectly satisfactory. I would much prefer this kit to the molds that create "perfect" houses that have no character. I highly recommend the kits!

I purchased this product and we used a different icing and gingerbread recipe. The roof, it said to bake the peice of gingerbread and let it harden. When it was hard, it said to on the bottom glue with royal icing, a small and flimsy peice of brown paper. Then break it in half. I did not do this just because it made NO sense! if you snap the roof it will crack and you will have a big mess. even if you left the piece whole you would need 2 pieces. I would never recommend to any one to purchase this product. It was HORRIBLE.
