I find this tool extremely handy for creating a lattice pie crust. It was simple to use, though it required a little extra effort to cut out the pie crust as required, it being plastic and all. Nevertheless, the final result was very good and I had my guests asking me how I got the design on to the crust.

So pleased with this product. Design, ease and simplicity of pie top cutter. Rec'd many compliments on my pie crusts.

This one takes a little longer to use because you have to move each little square - but worth it! Your end result - a truly beautiful crust! JC

I bought this product some years back, but never used it until recently, and it works great.

I wanted to dress up my double-crust pies in a more artistic and

professional way, so I ordered two pie top cutters along with some other

items. I was disappointed by the Pinwheel pie top cutter because its cutting

ridges won't give even a basic form of the openings you see in the picture.

Only about half of the design shown will be made by the cutter, as if

one took a knife and make a slight curve, then pulled back in an arc-- it

looks like a fishing hook. Think about a lattice pie cutter that didn't

make diamond cutouts, but just made smaller V-marks in the pastry dough.

Also, each marking does not follow the stylish shape of the openings; each

is far more simple, just like a backwards letter J. Plain, not artistic.

Ugh. Not for my kitchen, people. Definitely NOT consistent with what

Amazon's webpage says: "Creates uniquely decorative design for top pie

crust."

Looking at the pictures on Amazon for other pie top cutters, you can

see where the pastry cutouts were being used to decorate the outer edge or

sometimes even the center of the pie-- now that's a creative dynamic! I

was looking forward to using the cutout pieces of dough from the Pinwheel

in between the voids, but in reverse, for a "stretched-out, 6-9 effect."

However, my artistic plan is too much work with this pie top cutter. This

piece does not make cutouts. You will not have any pieces of dough at all,

anywhere, after using it. All my hopes went crashing to the floor.

Amazon says: "Make decorative cutouts for the tops of your pies with

this pie top cutter." Sorry; this cutter does NOT make cutouts-- it makes

lines; 1D, not 2D. A line is not a cutout. Even little children know that a

cutout is made by going all the way around a shape, not just a long, curvy

line. There are no pieces of dough taken out by this cutter.

The webpage says: "Roll out the dough to the required size and press

down with the pie top cutter to cut out decorative vent holes." Sorry

again; this cutter does NOT make vent holes, not even one.

As for what I like about this cutter, the fact that the pie top cutter

is totally flat, with no raised edge seemed like another problem at first,

but when bake a huge pie, or a cobbler in a rectangular pan, the crust

ought not be cut off automatically.

It's made of sturdy enough plastic, which should last "forever," even

though no warranty is expressed. The Amazon webpage says it's 9" wide, and

other websites say it's 10", but actually it is 9.5" (24.2 cm) wide,

overall.

The design is gorgeous. It caught and held my eye when I first saw it.

A stylized daisy or sunflower with a polarized effect.

I called the Fox Run Company and it responded well to my concerns. If

the Pinwheel were done over, I would be one of their first customers.

Sadly, I'm returning it. I want both utility and art in my kitchen, without

settling for just one.

I love to bake pies in the fall and thought this would be great for an apple pie. However, the pattern is so intericate that it is hard to punch out all of the apples, and when you do, it rips the dough. You also can't see the little stems on the apple. As the pie backs, you lose alot of the design. I have returned this product, since the pie did not come out pretty in the end. I will go back to making my lattice pies by hand.

I HAD THE WHOLE SET OF PIE CUTTERS YEARS AGO. BEEN LOOKING FOR YEARS TO FIND SOME. FOUND ON AMAZON! EXHITED. THEY ARE PRICEY COMPARED TO BACK THEN. BUT TRULY WORTH IT! YOU HAVE TO GET ATLEAST ONE...I WILL BE GOING BACK TO TRY TO GET ALL OF THEM SOON. THEY ARE FUN FOR KIDS AND ADULTS. ROLL PIE DOUGH OUT AND PRESS THIS ON TOP AND YOU WILL LOVE THE CRUST! LAY WHOLE CRUST AND PIE SHAPE ON PIE THEN GENTLY PULL PLASTIC OFF. VOILA! A PRETTY PIE!

I used this for the first time and would not use it again. The design came out fine, but it took way too long to punch out all the little holes.
