This is a fun little kitchen timer! Just make sure you get one that's reliable and works properly and you're good to go. Has a nice, loud bell. You can hear it in the next room unless you have your music blasting or your vacuum cleaner on.

The first one I received from Amazon would stop ticking even though I followed directions for turning the dial past the 55-minute mark and then setting it to the number of minutes I wanted. I would set it at 30 minutes or 45 minutes and it would tick briefly, then stop. But it was accurate at shorter times of 5 or 10 minutes; it would tick down and the bell would go off.

Due to its unreliability, I returned it to Amazon for an exchange of the same model. That one had the same defect.

This time I contacted the manufacturer, Fox Run Craftsmen. They sent me a replacement that has worked beautifully!

My advice is, if you get one that doesn't work, contact Fox Run Craftsmen for a replacement.

Now that I have a working one, let me say it is the cutest kitchen gadget ever! I like the fire engine red color! The size is depicted accurately as "actual size" in the photo at just about 3 inches in diameter, so it is small. The magnet is strong. It looks great on my refrigerator!

Recommended. (With above caveats.)

This timer worked great... for a week. Then it would only ring lightly for a second. Now, not at all. Will be returning it forthwith. Caveat emptor!

the first one of these i received was a christmas gift. i was in love with it! well, it didn't work, it didn't ring at all. so i took it back to the store to return it and tried a BUNCH of them in the shop while shopping. they didn't work. my husband, the gift giver, figured out that i need to set the timer PAST the time needed and pull it back to the time i want in order to get it to ring. so that seemed to work - the bell would ring about a minute early, but it seemed to work. If you need 10 minutes, set it for 11, it'll ring around 10, and keep ticking. So, feeling confident about this "band-aid" technique to make it work, i bought more (silly me). i now have four and ALL of them are completely unreliable. One of them doesn't work at all anymore, the other three ring sometimes, but you never can be sure. i've reverted to using any and all forms of kitchen timers - except this one. what a disappointment. i tried, and tried, and tried, and yes, tried again, and all four of them are useless. as someone else wrote, "great paperweight", or cute kitchen refrigerator magnet. No more, no less.

We had this timer a couple years. Towards the end of it's timing life it would sometimes stop mid-time and get stuck. The final death blow was me knocking it off the fridge. The front popped off. I put the front on but the damage was apparently more extensive on the inside. The plastic gears had come loose and there was no way to get inside the clock with out tearing the paper face of the clock off to access the screw panels. Oh, well... Looks pretty. Works not so pretty.

it's a beautiful gadget but I wish it worked properly. The alarm doesn't work most of the time and when it does only rings for a few seconds.

Bought this cool-looking retro timer and it arrived dead on arrival. I should have expected that, given the other reviews but I thought perhaps I'd luck out. Avoid.

I really like the look of this timer...and the fact that it is magnetic...however after a month of use i am VERY disappointed... the first couple times of use the timer was moderately helpful, i would have preferred a more noticible dinger, but it wasn't something i would complain about...now it dings for maaaybe a half of second...when it can still keep time...a lot of the time the ticker gets stuck and CAN'T time...how UNHELPFUL.

I had a few issues with this timer, which kept me from giving it 5 stars. It is a solid timer and I love the way it looks, but you can't just set it on your counter and expect it to work. It actually has to be stuck up on a vertical surface like your refrigerator door. (It has a magnet on the back.) I tried to make it work when it was just sitting on my counter and it wouldn't work at all. THat is, it wouldn't count down the time or ding, no matter what I did. Sometimes it would start to run, but it never got through the whole cycle and only rang every fifth or sixth time.

When I hung it up on the refrigerator, it did the countdown thing okay. It does ding - one ding - but it is so soft that I can't hear it a if I'm more than a feet away. My old (cheap/ugly/partially melted) timer could be heard in the living room, which meant I could set it and then go do other things until it went off. This time, well, I have to either stay in the kitchen or check on it every few minutes. Kind of a bummer.
