5.0 out of 5 stars Good for shortbread!
I like this cutter for making shortbread cookies. After making your cookies, wash in hot water, and dry with a cloth. Allow to sit on counter for a few hours before putting away in a kitchen drawer. The reason for this is to prevent any residual moisture causing rust. This cutter allows you to make cookies that can be dipped in chocolate (one end only-more unusual.

3.0 out of 5 stars Just OK
Needs an open top! The dough wants to stick in the shortbread cutter, and if there was an open top you could just gently press it out with your fingers. The shortbread recipe I use isn't even that sticky, but the dough becomes trapped inside the cutter time after time.

I FOUND THIS LITTLE COOKIE CUTTER THE PERFECT SIZE FOR SHORTBREAD COOKIES. IT WORKED REALLY WELL, EXCEPT FOR ONE THING. I WOULD SUGGEST TO THE MAKER TO LEAVE THE TOP OPEN, SO AS TO MAKE IT EASIER TO GET THE DOUGH TO COME OUT OF THE CUTTER ONCE IT IS CUT. OTHER THAN THAT, IT'S A GREAT LITTLE TOOL.

I like when cutters have an open top. Cookie dough is easier to get out that way but the shape is really nice for shortbread.

3.0 out of 5 stars MANUFACTURER TAKE NOTE, December 25, 2011

I love the shape of this little cookie cutter, but it is a pain in the butt to use, as others have noted. It took several tries to figure out a way to remove the dough from the cutter since the top is closed. I tried dipping the cutter into flour, sugar, hot water, hot water and sugar, and applying a non-stick spray. After each try, I shook it vigorously in an attempt to dislodge the dough. All led to frustration and failure. I even pried out the dough with the narrow handle of an iced tea spoon. That helped, but it marred the cookies' appearance a bit. I did not hit upon what I think might be a solution until my first batch was in the oven and I was shaping the second batch. My recipe calls for the dough to be 1/2" thick; however, with my first batch, some of the cookies were actually a little thicker. By accident, I found that if I rolled the dough just a hair under 1/2" thick, it would easily pop out of the cutter after I gave it a shake. Another thing, inspect the inside of the cutter to make certain that it is clear of dough. That will give you a cleaner cut and a better release. I also had a problem with the weakness of the handle. It collapsed when I pressed on it and, at one point, even separated from the base. I was able to get it back together and used it without the handle for a few cuts. NOTE TO MANUFACTURER: RE-DESIGN THE CUTTER WITH AN OPEN TOP AND A STRONGER HANDLE. In the meantime, I have ordered the fluted square biscuit cutters that are open at the top and have what appears to be a better handle design. Not exactly the shape that I wanted, but I should not have to go through these gyrations just to bake some rectangular-shaped, fluted shortbread cookies.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not worth it, December 24, 2010

I bake a lot and shortbread is one of my specialties. I could not use these cookie cutters at all. The dough sticks to the cookie cutter despite greasing and flouring it. The closed top makes it impossible to push the dough through from the other side. I had to keep looking for other cookie cutters. Too bad!

1.0 out of 5 stars Does not work!, December 21, 2011
This review is from: Fox Run Shortbread Cookie Cutter Tin (Kitchen)
I bought this shortbread cutter to make shortbread cookies for Christmas and was so disappointed. It does not work for me at all. The cookies get stuck in the cutter and I can't get them out without breaking the cookies. It needs an open top as other reviewers have said!!! I do not recommend this product. Save yourself the aggravation and buy one with an open top!
