***IMPORTANT NOTE*** THIS PRODUCT CAN BE PURCHASED AT ANY LOCAL HYDROPONICS STORE FOR $10-15 PER 1.5CU QT BAG!!! PRICES ONLINE ARE HIGH DUE TO WEIGHT/SHIPPING, BUY THIS ONE LOCALLY AT 1/4 THE PRICE.

I've been using this stuff for a while now and it is amazing. I have tried several other brands of ORGANIC *container* soil (soil compositions should vary depending on a LOT of factors!!).

I have no experience using it in any other way so my review is limited to what the product is absolutely amazing at. If you are growing any type of contained garden (ie, not open soil in the outdoors) then this is THE stuff to use.

PROS:
-Organic
-No ferts needed for first MONTH
-Great drainage and moisture retention

-Never gotten mites in my soil (I have tried 3 other brands. 2 of these brands, the bag of soil which had been opened and sitting in my patio got mites on its own. The fox farms did not get any mites even though it was sitting next to the other 2 bags.)

CONS:
-Buy this locally at a HYDROPONICS store for $10-15 for the same size bag! ONLINE SHIPPING is expensive.

Great growing medium. Just make sure not to add nutrients for the first 4-6 weeks, as it is already full of them.

I'm surprised to see anything but glowing reviews for this product, but it does sound like one reviewer got a bad bag. I've been using this soil for a few years now and am constantly impressed with the results. It's great for both indoor and outdoor growing. I've only used it in reservoir pots (the ones you can leave a reservoir of water under and they self-water through the soil). This year has been a terrible growing year for many Vermonters due to the torrential rains we've been having. I find this soil has great drainage and my plants are just enormous! Last year I grew the same strain of tomatoes in side-by-side Earth Boxes. One had the FoxFarm soil and the other had Organic Miracle Gro. The Miracle Gro box had some issues with late-blight, showing the drainage wasn't great, and the tomatoes grew slower and were much smaller. The FoxFarm tomatoes looked like they were out of a catalog. I was seriously impressed. This year I shelled out the money to use this soil for my entire deck garden (about 4 cf). Using the same starts that my Dad started from seed my garden is about 1-2 weeks ahead of him in growth and flowering. I just can't argue with these results. I also did not find any bugs in the soil bags so I really do think that other reviewer encountered a fluke. I will definitely buy this again next year.

I grow my plants in dirt and this stuff has NEVER, NEVER failed me. Has the exact amount of nutrients and combination that makes ALL your plants grow like crazy. Tomato plants love this dirt and so do African Violets! Just a wonderful product and it can be delivered to your door!!!!! Let UPS carry that weight to your door! Keeps UPS in business and saves your back!!!!

Ive used this soil for 6 years now and I love it.......Trust me.......Ive cheated a few times and just used miracle grow with horrible results. Never again and its also 100% organic and ph ballanced. I also recommend getting fox farms big bloom with this soil.......Big bloom is the only one in fox farms line up that is 100% organic.

FFOF makes it easy to grow plants inside or out, and contains everything you need to grow your plants from seed. I love the stuff, as I don't have a lot of time to tend to my plants/garden, and I do not like using liquid ferts on my plants if I can avoid it.

There's enough natural fertilization in the soil to last about 30 days, so you can transplant into fresh FFOF soil after that period of time, and not worry about adding fertilizers, or start feeding your plants after 21-30 days. I've had great success popping seeds right into the soil, or sprouting them separately in Rapid Rooters and putting the plugs right into the FFOF soil once the seedlings are established after several days.

If you're planting seeds/seedlings, make sure to mix-in some perlite to lighten-up the soil, as it can be fairly dense without it. Use RO, Spring or Distilled water and adjust your PH to around 6.5-6.7 for best results, for most types of plants. The soil can become acidic quickly and ruin plants if you're using water with a PH of 6.0 or lower from my experience. Of course that is very important - or if outdoors let rain water do the work for you naturally.

In any case I just wanted to chime-in and say how much I love OF soil, it's cheap (only $8-$9 a bag at my local hydro store - I do not buy from Amazon as a result, sorry, but if you have to, do it) and I've only occasionally experienced mites in the soil, which are easily treated with some organic pest control spray once a week, if that.

If you're hung-up on bashing it for some reason, you either don't really know what you're doing yet, are a complete snob, or have an axe to grind for some reason. You can grow fabulous plants in this stuff of any kind, with or without adding fertilizers.

So consider me a big fan!
