This review is from: Foxie (Audio CD)
...I leave the rest to the reader. The eleventh contemporary jazz effort from one of the true masters of the genre is a very pleasant effort. Bob manages to display his talents as synthesist beautifully here. The CD kicks off with "Ludwig", a bizzare adaptation of the second movement from Beethoven's Symphony #9. "Calaban" gives musical life to Shakespeare's monstrous character. Bob throws it into high gear with the pagan funk of "Fireball". Peter Erskine and Marcus Miller provide the rhythmic bedrock supporting Bob's electric piano and electrifying synthesizer work. David Sanborn is featured on Marcus Miller's tune "Zebra Man". "Miranda" features bassist Ron Carter and Erskine once again. Shakespeare's ultimate ingenue could not be any more perfectly portrayed. The CD closes with "Marco Polo", a funky tune with some great synth washes. Although in print for seven years, FOXIE is still a rare find, but well worth the search! Gracing the album all over is model Patricia Tracy.
