5.0 out of 5 stars Too funky!
FOXY BROWN is my favourite Pam Grier movie (with COFFY a close second and JACKIE BROWN third). This soundtrack opens with a bang with the instrumental CHASEand then never lets up. Brimming with funk, sass and attitude, this is a 70s gem that's too good to miss.

3.0 out of 5 stars fine soundtrack, sound quality is just ok
This album needs to be remastered. It would sound a lot better than it does now. The disc's sound quality is merely passable, not as vibrant as it should be. The work of black soul artists should get the same respect that white rock acts do.

5.0 out of 5 stars Willie Hutch: Underrated Genius, April 26, 2002
By
This review is from: Foxy Brown: Original Soundtrack From American International Pictures (Audio CD)
Strokes of genius abound on this excellent soundtrack to the blaxploitation classic "Foxy Brown." Willie Hutch produced and wrote every note on this record. Honestly, I wasn't familiar with Hutch until very recently, and now I am kicking myself for not discovering him sooner. It doesn't seem like he got the recognition he deserved. Why? This work is brilliant. The funky theme to "Foxy Brown" and "Give Me Some of That Good Old Love" are slices of delectable 70's soul. But the track that comes closest to my heart is the "Hospital Prelude." If this jam doesn't give you goose pimples when Hutch sings with urgency, "give me some of that good old love," chances are you are comatose. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Willie Hutch is decent..., April 30, 2001

Willie Hutch is decent. This soundtrack, like "The Mack" was an interesting part of the Blaxploitation soundtrack genre. It's a shame that Mr. Hutch has been kind of overlooked. However, the music isn't as perfect as Mayfield's Superfly. The title track of "Foxy Brown" is really hot. You could get this CD, customer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Underrated songwriter and composer, January 27, 2012
This review is from: Foxy Brown: Original Soundtrack From American International Pictures (Audio CD)
What a treat this CD is. I am glad to see that this CD has been reissued as it had been out of print and the asking prices have been ridiculous.

This is the man who wrote, I'll Be There, the song made famous by the Jackson 5 and was a writer, arranger, producer, and musician at Motown. He wrote, produced and arranged songs for The 5th Dimension.

Willie Hutch is a singer, songwriter, record producer.

IMHO, the highlights of the CD:

Theme of Foxy Brown
Ooverture of Foxy Brown
Give Me Some Of That Good Old Love
Out There - FABULOUS SONG
Ain't That (Mellow, Mellow) - ANOTHER FABULOUS SONG

If you like soul music the 70s, check this out!

4.0 out of 5 stars FOXY!!, October 9, 2011
This review is from: Foxy Brown (MP3 Download)
Caught this movie over the weekend. I'm not one to pay too much attention to the music from films. Normally just keep it in the background, letting it help set the scene, but not really listening in an active way. This was an exception. To me, the music is on par with the film. Neither is what I'd call "great" but they're both fun and do a good job of what they set out to do. Cool musicianship on this. Funky and passionate. If you like blaxploitation movies or soul music from the 70s, you will like this.

4.0 out of 5 stars classic, April 22, 2010
This review is from: Foxy Brown: Original Soundtrack From American International Pictures (Audio CD)
When I say Willie Hutch's soundtrack to Foxy Brown--the 1970s film, not Terentino's--is typical Blaxploitation, don't think for a second that is a slight. Take the vast majority of music from the genre, from the exquisite vocalists to the wha whas to the lush ballads, and this music is almost uniformly excellent.

Foxy Brown's score is no exception, and whether your new to the genre, and using this as a window, or a collector, you gotta have this
