The Define R4 is the latest in the Define series of silent computer cases. Building upon the award -winning foundation of the Define R3, the R4 retains minimalistic yet elegant styling with extraordinary performance, noise reduction features (including ModuVent), premium build quality and unparalleled value in this price range while adding a suite of innovative new features. The Define R4 offers support for multi-radiator liquid cooling, an integrated fan controller behind the front panel as well as the ability to discretely mount up to two SSD's behind the motherboard plate, effectively mitigating visible cable clutter. This mid-tower case is a great choice for everything from gaming/enthusiast systems to silent home theater and corporate applications.
What Other Items Do Customers Buy After Viewing This Item?
This is my first purchase from Fractal Design and I can attest that I will purchase from them again without hesitation. I'll highlight what I find to be critical in defining this knock-out case:
Full-forced modernism: While I find nothing mind-blowingly innovative here, I find absolutely nothing to be outworn. Everything feels firmly cutting-edge, thoughtfully executed and willing to stand the test of time. The two included 140mm fans quietly and effectively cool this case and can optionally run through a discretely integrated fan speed controller switch (accessible just behind the front panel door). At the highest (standard 12v) setting on the controller, I cannot hear the sound of the two included case fans over my own thoughts. At the middle (7v) setting, I cannot hear the fans even when concentrating on them. The controller will accept a third fan. Any discernable fan noise drops considerably when the sound dampened front panel door is closed.
Just two 5.25" external bays take space on the fore of this full ATX case (lower bay can accept 3.5"), leaving more real estate for internal 3.5" drives via two removable cages, which I believe is more apt for the enthusiast market that would be investing in a case of this caliber. The cages house identical steel hot-swap bays that mount 3.5" devices with included black silicone grommets for excellent vibration/sound dampening. They also accept 2.5" SSDs without extra brackets (and with included screws). The top cage is rotatable. All this is tucked behind a fully slotted grill for lush air flow. The grill is push-latched and easily opens to reveal a detachable/washable fan filter that will cover two 140mm intake fans.Read more ›

I can't explain to you how much I love this case. I originally had the Antec 902 v3 case. And it was alright, but when I saw this one online, I had to have it. Since getting it I've been so proud of my build. Everything you could want in a case, it has. You have the option of 6 120/140mm fans, you have the option of mounting a 240/280mm radiator on the front or on the top, you have a bunch of drive bays, filters for all of you intake fans, a 3 fan 3 speed fan controller, a huge side window, noise dampening material throughout the case(everywhere except on the window of course), 2 usb 3.0's on the front, and almost the whole thing is made out of metal.
This case is just so sleek looking and you've got tons of room inside, especially if you do like me and mount your drives on back of the motherboard, pull out the front drive bays, and mount an H100i in front of the case. This case is perfect for a 240/280mm radiator. I have the 240mm so I can tell you for sure that this works. You have two top 120/140mm fans, one rear 120/140mm fan, one bottom 120/140mm fan, and two fron 120/140mm fan(or like me a 240mm radiator).
Another thing about this case as I've mentioned is it's QUIET. Way more quiet than my 902. The way the front is designed with it being closed in and the fans sucking air from the side, make it really quiet. And if you don't put the two top fans, they have two big sound dampening boards over the fan wholes, so it would be even more quiet if I didn't have two top 140mm fans.
So if you want a cool, quiet, sleek, mostly metal, and most importantly, GREAT looking case, then this is definitely it. I won't change out my case even for my next build in 2015.

I can't say enough about this case. I've recommended it to everyone I know that's either working on a new build, or recently built one. Aesthetically, the Define R4 is second to none. Very clean and modern without the plethora of design "enhancements" you see on most PC cases these days.
The craftsmanship from Fractal design is superb. The case and basically all the subordinate components are made from thick, heavy duty steel. The side panels are covered with a sound isolating material similar to dynamat. It's obviously not ideal in this case having a large window, but it's still overall a very quiet case all things considered.
On top of all that, this case is a steal at $119.99 retail. Most of the time its $109.99 or as low as $89.99. Fractal design easily has the best mid tower case in production with the Define R4. Superior craftsmanship and clean aesthetics on top of the price and functionality of all components make this a truly great case.
Enough of the obvious mirroring of every other review. I built a custom water cooling loop in my Define R4 and found the case to be extremely accommodating and forgiving.
Components: - Swiftech H220 AIO Water Cooling Kit - XSPC Dual 5.25" Bay Reservoir - AlphaCool 120mm All Copper Radiator - Koolance GTX680 Water Block - 2-3' Primochill Primoflex Advanced LRT Black 3/8 ID 5/8 OD Tubing - 6x Swiftech 3/8 ID 5/8 OD Compression Fittings
The Swiftech H220 Kit was simple enough to disassemble. There is a video on Swiftech's website that shows how to do it. You basically just unscrew the cap on the radiator, drain the fluid, then take it apart. Everything else is self explanatory if you've done a custom loop before.Read more ›
