5.0 out of 5 stars A Good Introduction to Fractal Image Compression., December 24, 2000
By
John Herndon (Atlanta, GA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Fractal Transform (Hardcover)
The author of this book is the inventor of the idea of using fractals to compress image data; he is co-founder of the world's only corporation (Iterated Systems in Atlanta, GA) fully devoted to making fractal image compression a useful tool in business and communication. Therefore, this book is the definitive source of information on the subject. After reading this book, you will understand all of the basic concepts of the subject. You will know enough to implement usable image compression algorithms by writing your own computer programs. Of course, the information in the book is not quite state-of-the-art: State-of-the-art information is still a corporate trade secret for now. But reading the book will give you enough understanding to allow you to gain entry into the latest research literature. As a former employee of the company mentioned above, I can state that the theory, as well as the algorithms, contained in this book are flawlessly accurate and correct.
