More About the Author

Dave Morice was born in St Louis and moved to Iowa City in 1969 to earn a degree in the University of Iowa's Writers Workshop. He has written thousands of poems, drawn thousands of cartoons, taught thousands of students, and raised one son, Danny, whom he considers the most enjoyable project of his life. In 1974, Dave painted colorful letters randomly on a white shirt, pants, shoes, cane, and tophat and turned into Dr. Alphabet, a man of letters. At the same time, he wrote concrete poems and edited Matchbook magazine under the name Joyce Holland as a literary hoax. He is currently a working staff member at Uptown Bill's Coffee House, and he is teaching at Kirkwood College. A prolific artist and writer, Dave continually seeks out new ways to create: "You can't step into the same stream of consciousness twice." He acts on his ideas for the sake of art to contribute to cultural education in the community and to express his irrepressible spirit. He has published 26 books as well as being the prime sponsor of dozens of poetry marathons, literary events, artistic happenings and Ripley's events. 5.0 out of 5 stars For Word-lovers of all persuasions, April 13, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Fractured English (Paperback)
If you've read (and enjoyed!) Anguished English or More Anguished English, this book is the natural sequel and should bring many a belly laugh or tear of joy (depending on your predilections). It gave me both.

5.0 out of 5 stars Language has never been this funny, February 19, 2002
This review is from: Fractured English (Paperback)
This book is so hysterically and funny in parts, it hurts. You will just recover your breath when you start laughing again. And, it's not the latest stand-up collection from a comic. It's the latest collection of flubs and foibles of one of the world's most complicated and misunderstood languages: English. Richard Lederer, the unofficial king of language, has produced another gem. This should be right alongside Anguished English and The Bride of Anguished English on your bookshelf.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great puns and language manipulation, September 7, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Fractured English (Paperback)
This is a VERY funny book on how the English/American language is SO Crazy. Like why isn't a good guy like a wise guy. This is a good book if you're interested in language manipulation or puns also a great gift to someone who's learning the language because hopefully they can laugh at the quirkiness and difficulties of the language. I enjoy all of Richard Lederer's books on the subject. I recommend all of his books if you like the subject.
