Book Description

March 1, 2010 Rina Martin Mysteries

A Rina Martin Mystery - When a body is washed up on a beach, it’s assumed it must be Edward Parker, who fell from a cliff a couple of weeks before. But it is discovered to be that of Pat Duggan, son of local nightclub owner, Jimmy. Pat had been abducted – twice. And, to complicate matters, the missing Edward Parker worked for Jimmy Duggan and disappeared at the same time as Duggan’s son. Coincidence? Mac and Rina don’t think so . . .

Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

*Starred Review* A Miss Marple–type heroine, the charm of the best British cozies, and a plot packed with unexpected turns combine to make Adams’ latest Rina Martin book a winner through and through. While readers new to the series may find some of the allusions to events in previous books a bit puzzling, they will soon find themselves spellbound. Rina’s latest case opens when the body of a boy washes up on the beach at Frantham. The corpse is quickly identified as Patrick Duggan, son of local bad guy Jimmy Duggan. Apparently, Patrick was kidnapped days earlier, and because his father refused to pay the huge ransom, the kidnappers killed the boy. Rina’s friend Mac is assigned to the case, but before he can make any progress, more kidnappings take place, creating heartbreak for the victims’ families and huge pressure on Mac. But it’s only when Rina, 13-year-old George Parker, and Rina’s odd assortment of boarders step in that the action heats up and the investigation breaks wide open. The crimes here are portrayed realistically, but the novel remains a cozy at heart, with gentle humor and the requisite happy ending. --Emily Melton --This text refers to an alternate Hardcover edition.
