4.0 out of 5 stars Solid info that's hard to find elsewhere., August 21, 1999
This review is from: A Fragment of Your Imagination: Code Fragments and Code Resources for Power Macintosh and Macintosh Programmers (Paperback)
This book is not for the feint of heart, but if you are working on any kind of code fragment - HyperCard Externals, Photoshop Plugins, system extensions, control panels, list/control/window definitions, or QuickTime-style components - then there is certainly a gem or two in here for you. The book does need to be updated to reflect some changes in the Mac system architecture (e.g. the Code Fragment Manager for 68K), and the version of CodeWarrior included on the CD is multiple generations obsolete. But the actual source code and projects still contain many useful concepts.

5.0 out of 5 stars Undertand the Mac OS as a Petri dish of collaborating code, July 11, 2000
This review is from: A Fragment of Your Imagination: Code Fragments and Code Resources for Power Macintosh and Macintosh Programmers (Paperback)
This books shows how not everything running on your Mac is an application, and shows you the marvels of extensions, control panels, plugins, and the like. Whether you're a seasoned programmer who wants to know how to write a plugin to make PhotoShop do whatever you want it to, or you're an advanced user who wants to look at the inner workings of the Mac OS, this book is for you. It comes with a CD-ROM filled with sample code for every "living creature" described in the book, and with a lite version of CodeWarrior to get you started. In one word: great.
