4.0 out of 5 stars A GNOSTIC CLASSIC, February 2, 2010

This review is from: Fragments Of A Faith Forgotten: Some Short Sketches Among The Gnostics (Paperback)
FRAGMENTS OF A FAITH FORGOTTEN is a classic among Gnostic works. It gives a digressive survey of Gnostic writers and thought, and much of the Gnostic information in it is not only worthy but cannot be found elsewhere. However, an enormous amount of work has been done on Gnosticism since this author flourished early in the last century. And yet, much of what he has to say about this esoteric subject gives even the most reputable and learned of modern scholars food for thought; material to mull over; and knowledge to contemplate and fathom. Gnosticism is a subject that is never dated. The views of scholars of previous decades, generations or centuries will always be safely kept in the annals of Gnostic scholarship. FRAGMENTS OF A FAITH FORGOTTEN is mandatory, especially for those newly introduced to this subject - such as undergraduates coming to Gnosticism for the first time. Why is this book obligatory reading for beginners in Gnosticism? Because its style, presentation, format and Gnostic material, belonging to an earlier period, early 20th century, gives the reader perspective when he or she arrives at Gnostic scholarship in our own time. One is thus able to visualize the Gonstic ground covered between thos early days and our own. More importantly, one could retrieve valuable gems of knowledge that have somehow escaped the notice of modern Gnostic scholars. Following historical progression gives one that clarity of perspective that makes for a more digested, and digestable assimilation of the esotertic subject of Gnosticism

4.0 out of 5 stars So glad these texts aren't censored., January 28, 2008
This review is from: Fragments Of A Faith Forgotten: Some Short Sketches Among The Gnostics (Paperback)
The book is an obvious reprint, heavy and oversized almost like a college textbook or a real estate training manual.
The contents however are remarkable.
Great to read what Christ's colleagues wrote without the censure of the Catholic church.
Thanks for providing such a wonderful book.
