This review is from: Fragments: Portraits from the Inside (Paperback)
Andre de Toth can write, there is no doubt of it. His language is colorful and full of pertinent analyses of persons and situations. Some of the fragments did not interest me at all. The people were too distant and everything was pictured with very small details. I enjoyed most the parts that describe making films. Here the names and times were familiar. Some of the stories were really great.

Fragments is true in the sense that continuation in time sense is not important. Fragments also means that many things one would like to know is left out - and many things one does not particulary care have been written thoroughly.

I it is perfectly clear that his abilities were not used nearly as much as they should have been. He was a real artist, but times were not good for him.

5.0 out of 5 stars Genuine Inside Perspective, November 9, 2002
Not for the casual reader.

But if you have some understanding of film history, and world history, this book is totally without parallel.

Andre de Toth tells it like it was.

Frank, no nonsense, no sugar coating.

Read this LAST out of any "golden era Hollywood" books to learn what it was really about.
