Book Description

County Sheriff Lester P. Morrison wasn’t buying the popular theory that a missing teenage girl was “just another runaway.” When his investigation revealed Melissa Parker was last seen in front of a roadside bar in the company of drunken men, the Sheriff’s suspicions soared to new heights.

In fact, Melissa couldn’t run anywhere. She’d been assaulted, locked in a tornado shelter—a fraidy hole—with no food, no water, and left to die. Her struggles to escape took on a new urgency as Melissa realized she was not alone in that terrifying darkness. The survival clock was ticking.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good read.... July 14, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book was a pretty good read.

Warning: There is some swearing in the book as well as some sexual content for those of you who don't like that in your stories.

The book pretty much dealt with three main characters: Melissa who wakes up in a tornado shelter or fruit cellar (in the ground separate from the house - Oklahoma) not remembering how she got there; the local sheriff, Lester, and his side kick Billy Ray. Melissa's mother reports her missing & they spend the book trying to locate her or the person(s) who was last seen with her. The chapters rotate with the police search and how Melissa is holding up in the cellar. The story does end with a little twist - actually several things are a little surprising (although the ending & who ends up putting Melissa in the cellar from real life events I shouldn't have been too surprised)

I didn't give this book a 5 because it was a little slow. I am not sure that I really needed to know how Billy Ray hurt his foot (we know why but not the details & I would have assumed Lester already would have known). There is also a passage about God - does he answer prayers or not which seemed a little out of place. The characters were also people I couldn't really relate to because they were definitely from a small town (no offense anyone). Lester was or could be a pistol. I found him most likeable when he was with Harley, his dog. Billy Ray seemed to be not too bright in my opinion which I suppose is how he was supposed to be.

Overall though it was a pretty good read and I would definitely read another book by this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great change of pace January 29, 2013

There are so many good things to say about "Fraidy Hole"! As with most crime novels, this one is filled with drama and interesting twists in the plot. Where I find the biggest difference between this novel and others in the genre is the way Mr Williams uses the Oklahoman dialect and slang when writing the conversations among the characters. While a lot of authors fill their dialogue with stiff and generic English, Mr Williams' style immerses the reader in the setting of his story by making his characters real. A more in-depth look at the back-stories of the main characters adds even more interest to the storyline. This is a don't miss read when creating a list of books for your reading pleasure. - Sheila Rae Myers, Author

5.0 out of 5 stars A mystery worth reading December 27, 2012

Fraidy Hole is a fast moving, well researched mystery. It is especially fun if you are from Oklahoma because you will recognize many of the nuances of being an Okie. Love the author's humor!

I liked the book, but felt it became a bit run of the mill. It was interesting enough to read until the end but do admit to skim reading a few parts!

More About the Author

I'm getting along in years but still capable of having two love affairs, one with writing novels and the other with a camera. When I'm not out photographing nature and wildlife, you will find me at the keyboard, pecking away, writing about my favorite protagonist Oklahoma Sheriff Lester P. Morrison.

"Roadside", a new novel with Sheriff Morrison, is in progress. Mid-east meets mid-west when an al-Qaida terrorist plans to use an Improvised Explosive Device, an IED, on the President of the United States as he travels to Oklahoma for a dedication ceremony. But first, the evil doer must pass through Cimarron County, the home stompin' grounds of Sheriff Lester where best laid plans go awry in a hurry.
