Product Description

The custom fit, Hexagonal 7' X 8'' heavy duty nylon Sandbox Cover attached in minutes and keeps out pests, rain water and tard debris. To remove, just release the tarp tabs and remove the green nylon cover from the sturdy four feet square sandbox. The beach ball which lifts the cover above the sand and creates a dome effect also allows the air trapped inside to warm up the surface of the sand. In an instant children are in kid heaven.

Good quality material.

It is hard to put on, hard to remove (without getting water or sand all over yourself).

So the rope is not holding the cover snug and water gets in.

I don't know what people were expecting from this. This is a high-end tarp, and it does what a tarp does. It keeps out leaves, sticks and the neighborhood cats. Water does collect on the tarp, and often, when you pull it off, the water dumps into the sandbox. But water isn't a problem, since it sinks into the sand (and kids like the sand wet). The problem is all the yard debris that gets onto the sand if you don't have a cover. And for protecting the sandbox from nature's debris, this tarp does a great job. It stays securely on and doesn't blow off. I've been very happy with ours. After six years of being outdoors all through our New England winter, it has worn out (ripped, faded, gotten a bit mildewy). I'm replacing it with the same thing. People who really don't want water to collect should buy a hard plastic cover.

We bought this item to go along with our sandbox purchase and we are glad we did. It fits nicely and keeps the sand clean and fairly dry. We use square rubber mats along the sandbox for the kids to sit on and we just throw these on the cover in bad weather and it keeps the cover more secure and rain out. I would buy this item again.

**UPDATE** In monsoon type rains recently we decided that although we like the cover to keep things out of the sand, we needed to put a tarp over the whole thing (9x12, pegged down around the sandbox)- we still use the beach ball to make this cover stand up a bit, and we still use the sandbox cover as purchased, it just cannot stand up to ridiculous amounts of rain!

** I don't think this item is discontinued - check Manufacturers website yourself **

I like this sandbox cover as it does what I wanted it to do - it keeps out the leaves, the pets (and squirrels!) and keeps the rain off the sand box. So far in fairly high winds it has stayed on, although I do feel at some point the ties (that secure the edges) may come apart and have to be replaced. The beach ball that supposedly keeps it up doesn't really work, we put an upturned bucket under the middle and it works just as well and doesn't roll at all, but water still pools on the panels of the cover because it's not a hard cover. We just take the cover off like we're doing a magic table cloth trick, IE: as fast as possible, flicking the water away from the sand box.

A better design idea would be to make the cover 6 inches or so wider on all side and put grommets in (metal circles like on a regular tarp) and then peg the thing down as a cover - less likely to blow away, still the same rain protection, etc.

All in all, it's doing it's job so far, wish it was more like an umbrella type structure, but it would blow away in a heartbeat!

This is my second cover - I agree that there are probably better ways to keep a sandbox tidy - like a lid - but since I don't have time to make a lid and this shaped box makes it hard to get conventional covers - we are stuck with this cover. This is a tarp - it does the job. No critters, no leaves. Water can seep through and there is pooling of rainwater/ice. Generally not the most reliable construction in the world, but it is a tarp with some cord on it...not something you can't work with when it starts to fall apart. Price wise - it is shameful what the charge...

this is a nice cover, but it collects too much water on top. We have tried putting two beach balls underneath and it helped a little. My kids need assistance to take the cover off now because water goes everywhere!

Cover does not stay on in the wind. Almost all the pull cords to tighten around the sandbox broke when putting it on for the first time. The ball did not stay attached to the tarp. I would strongly suggest not buying this. I think the concept of the tarp is good but having it actually work is another story.

Like the idea it can be reused to assemble as a flower box when children outgrow the sandbox. No sharp corners, easy to assemble, roomy for our 3 grandchildren--7 yrs. & 5 yr olds. Cover seems to be working well, so far.
