We recently bought this sandbox for our 17 month old. He absolutely loves going to the backyard to dig! I researched most of the available sandboxes at Toys R Us, local stores and on the net, but most were too small or WAY too expensive. I also researched building my own box (type into search engine: "building a sandbox), but the issue of wood rot on natural wood or carcinogens/arsenic on treated wood left me beffudled. Not to mention attempting to find a suitable cover and the time that would be needed to build it! This sandbox is the perfect size for several children and is durable enough to outlast their sandbox years. The box took approximately half an hour to set up (using a drill to insert screws) and voila...it was time to put in the sand! We used 25 bags of play sand, though 20 would have been fine. Look for a really fine playsand as this makes for much better sandcastles! We found some great sand at Lowes, though I believe you can get it cheaper from a sand/gravel yard if you have a pick-up. Just be sure it is labeled "play" sand. There is a lot of talk about purchasing "safe" sand, though in searching the OSHA website, I didn't feel it was a necessary investment (at $50 per bag!!!). The liner is a nice addition, though some moisture still seems to seep up into the sand. The cover is a little less to rave about...it lets in some water and animals could easily sneek under it. I'm debating about laying velcro along the edges of the box to secure the cover a bit better.
All-in-all, we love this box! It looks like a nice old-fashioned sandbox, but has the added feature of being built from durable plastic.

I odered this sandbox for our 1 year old son and 6 year old daughter. They both love it! Shipping only took a few days for the boxes to reach us. One draw back, two of the peices were broken, but still usable. See the photos. The damage looked like it happened during shipping. Assembly was straight forward. Another person who bought it recommended using a power screw driver or a power drill. I used a power drill and only took about 20 to 30 minutes to get the sandbox assembled. It comes with a black, material mat to cover the ground to inhibit grass and weeds growing up through the sand. I also ordered the cover for the box and I was impressed with the construction of the cover. I bought 27 bags of sand to fill it (as that was how many were on the pallet at Lowes) and 27 bags will definitely fill it. The kids love it and I look forward to the many hours of them playing together in the sandbox.
