Book Description

Frame relay is a data-transport technology that is used to connect an organization's multiple Local Area Networks and SNA services. This text provides business-oriented advice on frame relay internetworking.

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

Frame Relay Internetworking explores frame relay data communications in light of its competitors and the bottom line. If you're debating whether to use frame relay, X.25, some sort of secure Internet Protocol (IP) link, Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM), or some combination of these to link your networks, this book has what you need. Its covered topics include the comparative advantages and disadvantages of frame relay, service providers, connection alternatives, service level agreements, and network topologies. There's coverage of disaster preparation, the considerations involved in using frame relay outside North America, and integrating frame relay with ATM connections. There's also information on moving SNA and voice signals over frame relay.

A reader approaching Frame Relay Internetworking with nearly no knowledge of the title subject will appreciate the authors' careful approach to frame relay technology. They assume that readers are familiar with high-level internetworking concepts, but they don't assume (or attempt to provide, to any significant degree) much low-level technical knowledge of the subject. This is a book for managers and decision-makers, intended to establish a base of knowledge from which they can explore options and make choices. A technical person attempting to justify an organizational investment in frame relay would be well-served by highlighting key passages in this book and passing it to a higher-up. --David Wall

Topics covered: Frame relay, service providers, connection alternatives, service level agreements, and network topologies.
