2.0 out of 5 stars Unsuccessful Synthesis, May 24, 2010
Dr. Banner has a PhD in Management. He writes that a voice awakened him in the night and told him to write this book about the transcendence of the individual ego. His descriptions of his personal experiences with techniques aimed at this are sometimes engaging, but not focused. He briefly touches on a potpourri of people and systems of thought that have inspired him, for example, Yogananda, Ram Dass, Eckhart Tolle, the Course in Miracles, Spiral Dynamics, the Enneagram, Ken Wilber, the Law of Attraction, Carlos Castaneda, and so on. 'Frameshifting' refers to changing the frame through which one sees the world. (I am very tired of these newly combined 'words' that are used to create snappy titles.)

This earnest attempt at synthesis is not very successful because of the author's disorganized approach and writing style, and the brevity with which he treats each topic. The text is heavy on quotations from others. Sometimes his own writing is unclear enough that the meaning is murky.

I kept wanting to refer Dr. Banner to Buddhism, which he never mentions, because it thoroughly addresses the issue with which he's wrestling.

There is a bibliography, but some of the authors whom he quotes are not included.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Aint Just about You!, January 19, 2012
In the realm of human spirituality, the human ego can be the greatest hindrance to mankind and our spiritual development. All of us are so busy protecting our own interests by virtue of following our egos that we miss out on a better, stress free, fear free and more joyful life. According to author David K. Banner PHD, author of the book FrameShifting, if we use compassion and empathy to deal with others it leads us to higher stages of consciousness which in turn will make life for us a smoother road to travel down and keep us at the consciously expanded level we really are supposed to live on.

The school of thought that building compassion for others has been expressed through a multitude of spiritual teachings. From Christianity to the Kabalistic teachings the message of FrameShifting has always been around and with the ever growing spiritual movement going on in the world right now FrameShifting couldn't have come a minute sooner. The main tenet of this book concerns not only the ways to diminishing the power your ego has over you but also taking control of your higher essence for better living.

This book presents the personal path that author David K. Banner took to expand his consciousness. His journey includes using the tenets of; Avatar training, Ubunto, Shamanism, Ishaya's Ascension, Aikido and the use of Reiki attunements. Also included in this book are many useful exercises and activities to be used as tools for your personal FrameShifting. The many tools to be employed are broken up into three general categories; Body expansion, Emotional and Mental expansion. As you use the tools you learn to shift your frame by looking at things from another person's "frame" or perspective. By shifting your "frame" or point of view you will build compassion and empathy and thus tap into your higher self.

This is a well written book that is replete with useful examples of how the different procedures worked for the author and can be applied for anyone to use. I recommend this book for anyone seeking to develop into more loving and balanced being.

When Loving Healing Press released a copy of this book for me to review I couldn't wait to learn more about this book.
QUOTE: "Taking care of the interests of others is the best form of selfishness." Dalai Lama

This book walks you through:
* Discovering your unknown limiting beliefs
* Achieve higher stages of our consciousness
* Breaking free from the boundaries of the ego
* Understanding people in your life more empathetically
* Become spiritually aware and grow

It explores the ego and consciousness and how we need to let go of our ego which wants to control our current beliefs, attitude, and values. To discover our divine self it is important to understand how our minds, ego and personalities work. What I enjoyed most was the part on page 92 which covers the Enneagram. The Enneagram is the nine personality types that each of us fall under atleast one of them. I learned that I am the #1 type which is the Reformer. I also found that if you study these you can learn about your relationships and be able to understand them more. I would recommend this book to those who wish to learn about our Ego's, our Personalities, Metaphysics and Philosophy.
