5.0 out of 5 stars This one is the exception!
Peter Frampton's studio albums have typically been a step or two down in performance, energy and intensity from his live albums. I don't know why this is, but it has been noted not only by this reviewer but many others. This album, as well as his 2004 release, "Now", is the odd exception.

3.0 out of 5 stars its OK
Not want I had expected...NOT the energy that is in Peter's "live in Detroit " CD. Would not bought if I had heard the selections beforehand.

5.0 out of 5 stars This one is the exception!, October 16, 2004
This review is from: Peter Frampton (Audio CD)
Peter Frampton's studio albums have typically been a step or two down in performance, energy and intensity from his live albums. I don't know why this is, but it has been noted not only by this reviewer but many others. This album, as well as his 2004 release, "Now", is the odd exception.

From the screamin' opener, "Day In The Sun" to the sweet closing ballad, "Changing All The Time" this album is superb. In fact, it just might be Peter Frampton's best studio album ever. Other songs that first appeared on this album that have since become staples of his live repertoire are: "It All Comes Down To You"; "You"; "Can't Take That Away"; and "Off The Hook". If you have enjoyed his live performances of these songs you will not be disappointed here.

Sweetening the pot are four bonus tracks which were originally released in Japan as an EP. For devoted Peter Frampton fan these four songs can be considered his small contribution to the short lived "Unplugged" fad of the 1990's. They're nothing to get too terribly excited about but, yo dude, they're free!

Finally, the liner notes by Peter Frampton add some interesting insight into how he works on his projects in general and this project in particular. It's interesting stuff that, to me, explains in part why his albums tend to be so "hit or miss". None-the-less, it worked on this one!

This is one of my favorite Peter Frampton albums. I suspect that it may be (or become) one of yours too!

4.0 out of 5 stars Creditable performance from a thoughtful, mature Frampton, July 18, 2001
By
Hindburn (Church Stretton, Shropshire, England) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Peter Frampton (Audio CD)
In his first album for several years, Peter Frampton proves that he has not lost his touch, with a collection of ten songs and two instrumentals of a consistently high quality throughout. It would be difficult to select the best tracks, but the slow and powerful 'It all comes down to you' and 'So hard to believe' are among my favourites.

Perhaps reflecting Frampton's maturity, fast paced or very heavy rock is largely absent from this album, with the emphasis being on slower, more thoughtful songs based around melodic hooks rather than guitar riffs. The songs are on the whole quite personal and the overall impression is that Frampton has put a lot of himself into this album. The voice - distinctive if a bit limited - remains much the same as we remember from past albums, and is especially attractive in the overdubbed vocal harmony sections. An interesting duet with the late Steve Marriott is also included.

The backing tracks are largely dominated by keyboards and acoustic guitars, and although there is plenty electric guitar work there are fewer of the tasteful extended electric guitar solos than many Frampton aficionados might have wished. It's also something of a surprise to discover that Peter's trademark black Les Paul guitar was not used, and the absence of its distinctive tone is evident. However, in Kevin Savigar, who played keyboards and co-wrote many of the songs, Frampton has found a good collaborator and the overall result is a clear and sharp, contemporary sound, which, due to the mixing work of Chris Lord-Alge and the drumming of John Robinson, is at times reminiscent of some Steve Winwood albums.

Since his glory days of the mid 70s, new albums from Peter Frampton have been fairly rare, so this one is very welcome. It's a good effort, nearly an hour long, and as well as being available at a bargain price four bonus live tracks have been added, making it an excellent value CD which I can thoroughly recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Frampton Comes Alive Acoustic!, December 13, 2000

Finally Frampton re-released and with extra acoustic cuts like Baby I love your way, Show me the way, All I wanna Be (is by your side) and the wonderful You can be sure. This is the album that should have put Peter back on the map a few years back with the rockin' single Day In The Sun and the Fantastic instrumental Off the hook. But this disk dissapeared only to be re-relaesed with some extra acoustic goodies. Peter sounds wonderful acoustically, A must have for Frampton Fanatics and guitar lovers alike.

I agree with one reviewer whom said, "I'm glad to see this album back in print". I also bought it years ago on cassette and wanted to get the CD version. This album is consistent stuff...everything you would expect from Peter. Every song is great/catchy. Probably one of the best albums I own.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible Artist...., October 29, 2008
This review is from: Peter Frampton [ORIGINAL RECORDING REISSUED] [EXTRA TRACKS] (Audio CD)
A few months ago, I was in the kitchen while my husband Steve was surfing on the TV in the den. He found something he liked on one of the PBS stations and left it there. I then heard the singing voice of Peter Frampton. I listened for a few seconds, and smiled, thinking that Steve was watching an old concert. So I stepped into the den to get a better look. I was shocked to see that it was a currently recorded concert. What equally shocked me was Peter himself.(Where in the world did his golden locks disappear?!) But one thing obviously did not disappear, and that is his talent. In fact, his skills as a guitarist have reached an incredible level of mastery. I abandoned the kitchen, and sat there on the couch to enjoy the rest of the concert. I absolutely loved it.

That performance is what encouraged me to buy this album. Peter, you never lost it. You have excelled as a musical artist.

If you have enjoyed Peter Framptons songs in the past, you will not be disappointed with this CD. One of the best studio albums that I have heard. Well produced, Peter Frampton at his best.

Wow...this CD is excellent, end-to-end. I always disliked Peter's studio work, a little too bubblegum....but not this one, a great CD, well polished without being too soft. The songs are that catchy Frampton, with great guitar licks, keyboard, and a lot of R&R 4/4 drums.....you will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Glad to see this back in Print!!, December 14, 2000

When this album came out, I purchased it is cassette form. But when my car was broken into, it was taken.......perhaps the thief had good musical taste!!!

Either way this album is wonderful. Frampton stumbled with his previous release, "When all the pieces fit" but came back strong with such great songs as "You" and "Can't take that away from me". Nice to see it with added live songs--Buy this CD you will not be disapointed with it........... Now if only "Frampton Comes Alive II" would be re-released again....

5.0 out of 5 stars FRAMPTON COMES OF AGE AND AGILITY, February 26, 2009

This review is from: Peter Frampton [ORIGINAL RECORDING REISSUED] [EXTRA TRACKS] (Audio CD)
I truly enjoyed this Peter Frampton album! Like alot of people I got really burned out on "Frampton Comes Alive" back in the 70's because of the constant airplay and it's POP music venue.Being a guitarist myself for 42 years I practiced and played to always reach a higher and more professional creative level.Frampton has done that in this album. It's entertaining but it showcases Peter's true playing ability and his creative ability teamed with fellow composer Kevin Savigar. When my friends hear this CD playing in my truck they are very surprised to find out that it is Peter Frampton & usually want to know where I got it.Very entertaining, excellent songwriting, great guitar chops, great arrangements, somewhat pop-rock but not repetitious nonsense that is so prevalent these days, also has some great blues tunes.Great listening experience over and over again.

I popped into a local used CD shop to get something to hear in my new car. Got really lucky this time and for only $8. Its even cheaper on CDNOW so dont hesitate if you ever liked Frampton this is his very best work. Even some bonus acoustic redo's of tracks from Frampton Comes Alive!! His new instrumental album FINGERPRINTS is excellent also.
