I was very well pleased with the way Ms. Andrews developed the main characters in the story. Francesca was sent to live with her Grandfather after her mother died when she was only about five years old. Though the Grandfather loved her he had died by the time she was ten and she became the ward of her aunt, Casandra. Francesca's mother had fled the country with the man her aunt had expected to marry, so Casandra took her bitterness out on Francesca. Until she was twenty five Francesca believed she had been born out of wedlock and suffered the stigma associated with it. Through lies and intimidation her aunt tried to systematically destroy any feeling of self worth Francesca might have.

As the story progresses Ms. Andrews shows how the many adversities of childhood helped shape and strengthen Francesca as she reaches adulthood, thus creating a heroine worthy of the five star hero she created in Marcus.

Marcus came from humble beginnings. He was a kind and considerate person of high moral character who did not hesitate to suffer personal sacrifice in service to others. As a young man with very few prospects he and Francesca briefly meet and immediately feel an extra-ordinary attraction to each other. But, Marcus has nothing to offer Francesca so they part in such a way that Francesca feels betrayed and broken hearted.

Marcus serves with distinction in the military and due to a series of events he unexpectedly inherits both money and a title. He quickly increases his fortune and receives the respect and admiration of all who know him. At this point Francesca and Marcus meet once again.

The resulting paths they take makes for a page turning fun read. This is my first Sylva Andrew novel. Based on this experience, I plan to purchase and read everything she has written. If you like REAL romance without lurid sex scenes, then this is a five star experience.
