Very sweet story for younger kids,

This review is from: St. Francis and the Animals (Hardcover)
I bought this book years ago to read to my CCD class, and now my 2 1/2-year-old son loves it. (The recommended ages, 9-12, are WAY off base, in my opinion. This book is writing in rhymes, is very short, and is far more appropriate for preschool-age children than late elementary/middle school!)
The illustrations are very pretty, and my son loves looking at the different animals and naming them. The book doesn't go into a detailed life of St. Francis or anything -- it just talks about his love for all of God's creation and tells a couple of stories about his life, like how he preached to the birds and how he tamed the wolf of Gubbio.
