A fairly strong first album from a wonderful songwriter, December 12, 2005
This review is from: Francis' Lonely Nights (Audio CD)
I will say first of all, I'm a fan of Kaizers Orchestra (as Janove is the lead singer). If you're coming from that camp as well, do NOT expect the same style of music on this, his solo album.
Ottesen is a very accomplished folk/ballad songwriter, and this entire album is more on the side of easy listening than rock or punk. It allows Ottesen's lilting and very folksy side to shine through, more appropriate for background music or relaxing to than anything else. The other thing that is different from Ottesen's normal stuff is that it is recorded entirely in English. He has a slight accent (which I find utterly adorable) when singing, and sometimes the lyrics sound a bit funny to native English speakers, but the overall result is not bad to listen to.
Most Kaizers fans who picked this up did not like it at first, but after listening to it a few times it grew on them. Personally I only really listen to about five songs, so it's not the best CD in my collection. "Juliet," "Neighbor Boy," "Black and White Movie" and "Go Tell Her" are some very outstanding and wonderfully composed tracks that are deserving of a listen.

Well done, March 11, 2009
I love his voice, and this style of music suits him beautifully! I hope he considers another album in the future!
