Get Aquainted with Schaeffer's Portrait, February 11, 2012
This review is from: Francis A. Schaeffer: Portraits of the Man and His Work (Paperback)
Prophets always arouse much controversy, and Schaeffer is no exception. Dennis has put together a volume with essays by Harold O. J. Brown, Gene Edward Veith, Jr., Ronald H. Nash, James Hitchcock, Richard Winter, Louis Parkhurst, Jr., Anky Rookmaaker, John W. Whitehead, and others that both critically evaluate and tell stories of Schaeffer's influence in their lives. They describe Schaeffer's generalist manner, his philosophy of philosophy, his controversial views of Aquinas, the Reformation, Kierkegaard, Barth, modern art, and political and social action.
This is the best book available that answers Schaeffer's critics, that critically evaluates Schaeffer's own thought and life from a sympathetic point of view. It is also a book that gives tender portrayals of the Schaeffers' spirituality, their faith in action, their love and compassion for others. Rarely do people receive such praise from so many varied sources. This is must reading for those who are acquainted with Schaeffer's life and work.
