The sincere criticism of Spain's society in the best baroque style,
By Howmany "HM" (Monterrey, MX) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Francisco de Quevedo: Dreams and Discourses Quevedo: Dreams and Discourses (Hispanic Classics-Golden Age) (Hardcover)
It is one thing to know Cervantes, and another altogether different to read his contemporary, Quevedo. Cervantes' wit criticizes his time with sad humor and reflection, Quevedo's writing is satyrical and quite more real. Even under the heavy censoring of the time, he reveals in the most baroque use of Spanish, a command of the domestic and international situation that helps us better understand Spanish society when their Empire was accelerating its decline.
