This review is from: Franck: The Great Organ Works Vol. 1 (Audio CD)
Cesar Franck is one of my favourite composers for the organ. I bought this CD a few weeks ago, and I've been pretty pleased by it. Eric Lebrun is a talented organist and the instrument he plays has been kept up in good shape over the years.
His tempos are somewhat brisker than those of Murray, especially in the Grand Piece Symphonique, Op. 17. But the church of Saint Antoine des Quinze-Vingts is a more intimate space than that of Saint Sulpice. Also, the organ is quite a bit smaller than that of Saint Sulpice. It is somewhat a more intimate Franck, I suppose, than Franck played at Saint Sulpice or Saint Sernin in Toulouse. Still, it is an excellent introduction to the organ music of Cesar Franck. |
