Editorial Reviews

Review

As a woman in a male dominated profession, I enjoyed reading A Frangible Quest because it gave me a look into the heart and passion of what drives the men around me. Very insightful. I learned a thing or two about the opposite sex. Jeanie Buss Executive Vice President, Los Angeles Lakers --Jeanie Buss, Executive Vice President, Los Angeles Lakers

Written as only a cop can… with passion! In my 25 years covering crime and the officers who battle it, I have never read a tale that so honestly portrays those who every day make a decision to put their lives on the line. Jeff Michael Journalist, Fox News, KTTV news --Jeff Michael - Fox News, KTTV

A highly enjoyable read...it really sucked me in and made me care about the characters! Tracy Lee Dayton, Deputy Chief, Violent Crimes and Terrorism Unit U.S. Attorney s Office, Eastern District of New York --Tracy Dayton , U.S. Attorneys Office

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book, May 2, 2009

"A Frangible Quest" was an enjoyable read and a trip back in time. It's a mystery if liked it more because I knew most of the people or for his ability to hold the reader. By far my favorite was his built in two hours late.

When writing about ourselves we tend to diminish or embellish; I can state with confidence; Rex did not overstate himself.

Our first meeting was in the early "80's" at the "4 Star Gym" in El Segundo. He was a scrawny kid and I was the gym tough/strong guy, five years his senior. I'm not sure what he did to piss-me-off but, shortly after he arrived, I was moving toward him yelling at the top of my voice. I can still remember the scared look on his face and the terror in the ice blue eyes when we came face to face. We knew who was going to win this exchange and he didn't like it.

I was ready to teach this kid who was on the top of the food chain until I saw something unexpected. He didn't move. His lips quivered, eyes twitched and hands slightly shook but he stood his ground. Normally, those involuntary movements would send a guy running once he realized the situation but Rex, no way.

I kept looking at this kid and was impressed. I was bouncing at crappy bar by the age of sixteen and had more than my share of fights but, for the first time, I turned and walked away. My years dealing with lowlifes allowed me to read faces and there was no "quit" in him. He knew I could pound him into a grease spot but WE knew' that exactly what I would have to do. What a cool kid.

With an earned respect, shortly we became buddies. Several years later, he got me a job with UPS when I left the Army. I had some rough years but he always gave me respect even when I didn't deserve it. To this day, he's one of only two guys that would fight for me. He's a solid man and I'm proud to have known him many years ago.

5.0 out of 5 stars A terrific read, January 31, 2008

If there was ever a definition of a "can't put it down" book, this novel is it. Absolutely fascinating from the first page on. The author, an active duty sergeant with a Los Angeles area police department, has written a semi-autobiographical tale about life on the streets for a modern policeman, a story which rings with authenticity. I hope there are more tales to come from this new author.

I could not stop reading A Frangible Quest until I hit the back cover. This is a wonderful insight into the life of a young man and his mentor and the lives of our law enforcement officers. I can't wait to read Rex Fowler's next work.
