Format: Audio CD
When you scan through the CDs available covering the work of Frank Crumit, born in Jackson, Ohio on September 26, 1889, and easily one of THE most popular vocalists of the Roaring Twenties, you might think, judging by the album title applied to several, that the only hit he ever had was Gay Caballero! In terms of chart success, it was his best ever, having risen to # 2 in late 1928/early 1929 on Victor 21735. But the fact is, this prolific recording artist who churned out well over 100 records in his day, enjoyed 31 such national hits, starting in 1920 with Columbia, where he recorded to 1924, racking up 22, and then Victor from 1924 to 1929 adding another 9 there.

However, until this 4-volume series emerged in 2011 from M.C. Productions of Penticton, B.C., Canada, finding his hits was like looking for the proverbial needle in a haystack. Lots of CDs, including two from ASV Living Era, but while they all provide a great deal of his output, seeing actual hits among them is hit-and-miss. And even with this 93-sides series, we STILL don't have access to all 31 hits! Having said that, however, and compared to others volumes out there, this is far and away THE best collection of his vast repertoire you're currently going to find.

To quote from the Website of M.C. Productions, they are "dedicated to preserving and making available the recordings of the 78 era including Jazz, Blues, Opera, Symphony, Dance, Personalities, and many other recordings meticulously re-mastered from the original records. I have developed a special high definition recording process to produce amazing clarity, warmth depth and crispness with transparent highs and fabulous dynamics.
