Once again a fantastic score.,

Grahme Revell has been one of my favorite composers for a long time because 1.) He has a unique sound and 2.)His music is really heartfelt. Once again he excels all of my expectations with the soundtrack to 'Dune'. I found myself transported to Arrakis, saw the sandworms and watched the evolution/de-evolution of House Atreides and House Harkonnen. His score transports the senses and makes you feel like you are there. An awsome accomplishment!

I love the ethnic feel of this soundtrack!,

I saw the new version of Dune and I heard the music. I had to have the soundtrack. My favorites are "Main Theme," "Desert Trek," "Travel with Fremen," "Reclaim Jamis' Water/Worm Riding," "Fremen Village," "Paul & Chani," "Chani & Paul's Love," "Worm Bark," "Desert Love," and "Paul Chooses-Finale." Graeme Revell did an awesome job. It really fits with the movie! I have no idea why David Lynch got Toto to do rock music for his version. It doesn't fit at all.

A full, rich score by Graeme Revell,
This review is from: Frank Herbert's DUNE (Audio CD)
Graeme Revell composed the musical score to the television miniseries "Frank Herbert's Dune," which was shown on the SciFi Channel during the 2000-2001 TV season. This epic program told an interplanetary tale of love, intrigue, war between noble houses, and the messianic hopes of a mysterious race.Revell's majestic score is the perfect complement to the vast, mythic canvas of "Dune." His music contains passages that are mysterious, exciting, unnerving, and hauntingly beautiful. The CD's liner notes contain some interesting quotes from Revell. He notes, for example, that on this score he used instruments from Armenia, as well as from other Asian republics of the former Soviet Union. This use of ethnic instruments must account for the wonderfully exotic sound of much of the music. Those familiar with Revell's superb score to the film "The Crow" will be aware of the composer's skill at integrating ethnically diverse elements into his work. There are too many excellent highlights on this CD to fully cover in the space of a short review. But some of the most memorable tracks are the "Main Theme," which establishes the epic scope with power and elegance; the mystical "Dreamscape"; the frenzied, percussive "Up the Ladder / Battle"; "Fremen Village," with its gentle, exotic flavor; and the haunting, emotional "Paul Chooses--Finale." One of my favorite film scores of all time is Toto's score to an earlier cinematic incarnation of "Dune." But Graeme Revell's imagination and artistry allow his work to rise out of the shadow of that earlier score. Revell's music to director John Harrison's version of "Dune" is a true masterpiece that should be enjoyed by fans of film and television scoring.

THE BEST!,

This is the best movie score I have ever heard. At times listening to it actually arouses more emotion than the actual watching of the miniseries. Plus, you'll never get over how hillarious it is to be listening to this album in the middle of a crowd, it adds all kinds of personal excitement and intrigue to the most awkward social situations.

A Masterpiece score for a masterpiece film.,
This review is from: Frank Herbert's DUNE (Audio CD)
Graeme Revell's ability to combine many ethnicities of music is fascinating. From his use of taiko drums in several of the tracks to the ethnic flute in "Worm Riding" and "Conquering the Worm," this soundtrack is a must have for any fan music, western or not.

The soundtrack to this wonderful mini-series bewitches and seduces the listener. Never overwhelming, it borders on trance or ambient music. What instruments Graham Revell used to create this music is something I'm looking forward to finding out.

A moody, somber, remarkably textured score,

I've seen the miniseries twice now, and both times I was left with the burning need to get my hands on the score as soon as possible. It's THAT perfect, in the context of the series itself; never overpowering, alternatively lush and minimalistic, it enhanced the action on-screen wonderfully. It doesn't stand quite as well on its own. Some of the tracks, specifically the faster-paced 'action' music, is not particularly remarkable when heard in isolation, but the score more than makes up for it in other places. The slower tracks are the real highlights of this album. They range from moody and majestic (Main Theme), to romantic (Paul and Chani, Chani and Paul's Love), to ethereal (Paul's Vision, Jessica Changes The Water), all of which manage to be evocative of the Arrakeen desert, with all its beauty and danger. Simply put, this is Graeme Revell at his best, and the few weak tracks are more than overcome by the strength of the rest of the album.

Adds a touch of the exotic to Dune,

I'll be honest, I hadn't watched or thought of the Sci-Fi Dune miniseries in years. However, I was looking for a new soundtrack to listen to while I read and came across Frank Herbert's DUNE - Original Soundtrack from the Sci-Fi Channel MiniSeries. So far, I absolutely love it. It has a wide, epic sweep to it. Some of the tracks are eerie and haunting guitar strings, while others have a Middle Eastern/desert vibe. It certainly adds a touch of exotic to the miniseries. It's almost impossible not to imagine the sandworms or nomadic ways of the Fremen while listening. It's also nice in that it's pretty relaxing to listen to, great for reading or right before you go to sleep.

Excellent score, worth your money!,
This review is from: Frank Herbert's DUNE (Audio CD)
When I originally heard the music in the Sci Fi miniseries, I was itching for a Soundtrack. Here it is now, and I keep it running on my computer whenever I'm not using the CD drive! There is the mixed sense of tension and moodiness, and a sober sincerity to the style of all the songs. Don't let 27 tracks fool you, the average length is about 2.5 minutes.Graeme Revell did an excellent job with this, the music is all excellent and, in my opinion, couldn't be better. Fans of Gladiator will recognize this style of music, its ranges go from a majestic grand theme, to a nomadic sense of desert raiding. The idea of the Fremen and their primitive life style in the desert and their ceremonial lives are captured into a beautifully done composure. Dune fans or musics fans alike should definetely buy this one.

Graeme Revell's musical score of the Sci-Fi Channel's mini series, DUNE is a masterpiece, because Revell has the ability to add accent to each scene like no other, and really bring the film to life. Half of the success of the series is attributable to Revell and his compositions. Even if you're not a fan of the series, books, or movie from 1984, this soundtrack is a great piece of music that belongs in everyone's soundtrack collection. It obviously has that desert sun "Sahara" sound and mood to it, and I especially enjoyed track 10 (Reclaim Janis Water/ Worm Riding. Overall, there are 27 tracks, all of them good. I would really love to see a re-make of the original film, with a more generous budget. With today's digital technology, etc., the Dune franchise could really make a mark in sci-fi. We already know that the music would be awesome!!! 10/10
