Book Description

October 21, 2008
Accompanying Rizzoli’s best-selling Frank Lloyd Wright: The Houses, this exceptional publication features Wright’s major projects and programs, including such masterpieces as the Guggenheim Museum, Marin County Civic Center, Unity Temple, Johnson Wax, Taliesin, and Taliesin West, to name only a few. Also included is stunning archival imagery of the great demolished buildings, such as the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo, as well as inspiring visions of the great unbuilt work drawn by Wright, including The Baghdad Opera House and The Mile High "Illinois," among others. Extensive, all new color photography shows the buildings to an extent rarely seen (including such little-known gems as Beth Shalom Synagogue, Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, and Lindholm Gas Station). Frank Lloyd Wright: The Buildings invites a reevaluation of Wright’s work and is a must-have for anyone interested in this very important American architect.

From the Inside Flap

Frank Lloyd Wright: The Buildings, is a companion volume to Rizzoli's Frank Lloyd Wright: The Houses, features the great non-residential masterpieces of architecture by this American genius. Included also is stunning archival imagery of the great demolished buildings, such as the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo and Midway Gardens in Chicago, as well as inspiring visions conceived and drawn by Wright, among themThe Baghdad Opera House and The Mile High "Illinois," to name only a few. In Frank Lloyd Wright: The Buildings, extensive, all-new photography shows the buildings to an extent rarely seen (including such little-known gems as Beth Sholom Synagogue, Kalita Humphreys Theater, R.W. Lindholm Service Station, and many others) while rich text by author Alan Hess coupled with insightful essays byWright scholars David G. 5.0 out of 5 stars Wright Buildings, February 5, 2009
This review is from: Frank Lloyd Wright the Buildings (Hardcover)
This book completes the cycle which began earlier with Wright: the Houses.

This book looks into the many office buildings, churches, museums, schools, and even doctors' offices where Wright used his vision to make the day more in tune with the natural.

Perhaps more interesting than the big projects, was how Wright applied his vision to small projects, like a medical building in Dayton, Ohio.

No project, it seems, was too small to do the Wright way.

Also covered was Wright's own space at Taliesin in both Wisconsin and Arizonia. It was interesting to see the quarters Wright created for his own family within these compounds.

This book shows the range of Wrights work, and is a perfect companion book to "Houses".
