This is a great book for the new runner.,

This review is from: Frank Shorter's Running for Peak Performance (Paperback)
I recently read a book about running specifically for women and it was thorough, but gave me too many things to think and worry about. This book is simple, well-written and uses a more common-sense approach to running. Very enjoyable, and very good pictures.

A Beautiful Read: But as a Secondary Reference,

This book is a great addition to any bookshelf on running - it is well written and beautifully composed.
I think that for a person just wanting easy attractive reading on the topic - this is a 5 star book and would not hesitate to order it up. Shorter has obviously had a life interwoven within the area of running and it shows in his great book here. If this is your "first" running book - there may be other books that may suite you better. Tim Noaks is a gem if you are someone technically minded and likes the details right down to the histology of the run. Now if that is too much a Jeff Galloway book may be more your style. If you are very serious and want to run harder/faster perhaps a Pfizenger book may be the best. So yes - buy this one. It's great. I would just be aware that it will not reach all runners - but not many books will. I would buy this in addition to one of the others above. This would be a great book for beginning runners. Discussions and sample training plans do not provide enough detail for experienced runners. Look at it more as a "Cliff's Notes" version of the works of Fixx, Sheehan, Henderson, et. al.

If you are starting a running program, this book is for you. It covers every relevant topic in a clear and interesting manner. In fact, it is surprisingly entertaining for being packed with so much information. It must reflect great style from the author himself. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I have.

This book is only for beginners. Runners with any experience would be wasting their money and time.
