Creative Perfection,

This review is from: Frank Wess Quartet (Audio CD)
Frank Wess! Wonderful flute playing, but the tenor playing is just perfect! This is the best version of "Stella" I have ever heard - one of my favorite records! Also, Tommy Flanagan is impeccable on this!

A classic you've never heard...,
By
This review is from: Frank Wess Quartet (Audio CD)
I really appreciate the re-issuing of these sessions. I own a few now, this one being my favorite. I really don't know what to say other than buy it and hear it for yourself. Frank's tenor and flute are ewaully dtrong. The two tracks that stand out to me are "Rainy Afternoon," a down blues with Frank stretching out a bit, and "Stella..." (which is my favorite recorded version to date).
Check it out, you won't be sorry!

MOODSVILLE,
This review is from: Frank Wess Quartet (Audio CD)
A Prestige Moodsville reissue from 1960 with better cover art for the CD era. Frank plays tenor sax and flute and not all the tunes are ballads. The tenor sax sound is still a little flat as it was on the old LP. Franks' flute playing on 4 of 7 tracks is very good and still revelant as I just heard a tune from this on the radio the other day. The rhythm section was led by Tommy Flanagan who did a Moodsville trio session himself.---- Frank Wess plays flute exclusivly on vibist Lem Winchester's session ANOTHER OPUS. Hank Jones was the pianist there.
