5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious. A Mother******* riot! Silly, stupid, offensive and better than most everything else out there
Wow, what a crazy ass record this is. I bought this CD purely on basis of the reviews i found here on Amazon. I was bored of what was out there and just looking for something different. It didn't have to be Rock/Rap/Soul/Indie.....just something different, any style. Well my friends I found it in this wondrous power packed record. The Album title alone grabbed my interest...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not a generic "this sucks" review, but it just didn't do it for me...
I read over every single one-star review. Only one or two actually provided credible, well-written opinions and left the choice up to the public instead of demanding no one buy it. The majority bashed the band, provided petty and likely exaggerated "I saw them! I know!" opinions, claimed it to be offensive noise, bashed punk as a whole, called the album and band childish...

The Album title alone grabbed my interest & so i gave it a listen. 'Dicks are for my friends' is one of the funniest, catchiest sing-along songs I've heard in the last 10 years. The whole album is full of subversive, nasty little lyrical snide-remarks & expletives which make no apologies to the listener. So you either go with it or not. I don't see any half-ways here. For me I find the whole album a refreshing blast of hot-air, bursting with the sort of attitude Punk pretended to have back in 77'. I cannot categorize their sound either. Let's see 'Jungle/Rap/Rock/Techno' - Ahhhh who cares. I'm 42 years old and I suppose I'm too lame to be listening to stuff like this but for me it's a drop of fresh air in amongst the dross that's out there right now. So check it out. Listen to some sound samples. The songs themselves probably aren't much longer than the sound samples. Short, sharp & fun. Check it out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Flawless, April 5, 2005
This review is from: Frankenstein Girls Will Seem Strangely Sexy (Audio CD)
I bought this CD when I was 14, after hearing a few songs off of Napster (remember that??). Shortly after the purchase I saw them live and this just reinforced my then- (and now) opinion of Mindless: they are an amazing band.

I recently broke this record out, seeing as it had been about a year since I'd given it a serious listen. Truth be told, I think I like them more NOW. This is probably in part because I'm older (18) and because I can now appreciate the punk rock nature of this band, something I gave no thought to at 14. At that tender, stupid age, I was completely and utterly entranced in the terrible, TERRIBLE nu-metal scene. Korn was my favorite band. I had terrible taste. I didn't even really know what punk rock was, let alone care that Mindless, while not having the generally accepted "punk" sound, is one of the few TRUE punk bands in existence today.

Do not listen to the idiot below...Mindless sounds nothing like Limp Bizkit (that would turn me off if I read something like that, and I want you to BUY this record, my dear reader). He is ignoring the punk rock influence (I really do hate to keep bring this up, but it needs to be said), which mostly comes out in the guitar riffs...listen close to those, by the way; you'll hear some rather intelligent and well-written stuff...

Mindless is a funny band, sure, but don't let people over-exaggerate; they are here to serve a purpose. Read the booklet: they don't want racists, homophobes, fundamentalists, or any other intolerant people to buy their records, wear their tee-shirts, or come to their shows...they thank culture revolutionists for raising the bar...they're sexually ambiguous...what I'm getting at is that MSI are here to challenge people. Their sense of irony is ridiculously sharp, and their intelligence level is higher than people think. Sure, there are adolescent jokes and the like, but they ultimately come off not as a stupid ICP-like band, but more like honor roll, art-school smartasses being as provocative as can be. To say that MSI is PURELY predicated on a joke, like the guy below says, takes away their importance.

If you want a different kind of punk experience, pick up this record.

5.0 out of 5 stars This album has me wrapped around its middle finger, October 8, 2004

If you took some tapes by the Lords of Acid, Devo, Mr. Bungle, Danielle Dax and Carter U.S.M., chopped them into little bits and threw them around the room and glued them back together... you'd probably end up with a sticky mess of glue and tape that would be totally worthless.

But you'd still have a good time if you were listening to Mindless Self Indulgence's "Frankenstein Girls Will Seem Strangely Sexy" while you did it.

5.0 out of 5 stars absolutely fabulous, March 24, 2000
This review is from: Frankenstein Girls Will Seem Strangely Sexy (Audio CD)
I'm an "older American" who LOVES this CD, but perhaps most people of my age would cringe away from the unusual electronic sound, which might be described as noise upon first listen, and the pretty raw lyrics. I'm here to tell you to listen again until you understand the point. Once you "get it" you'll be delighted by the silliness interlaced with social commentary. The intricate electronic bursts overlaid with live music are spectacular. Add Little Jimmy's vocalizations that move blithely and rapidly from trilling and caterwauling to bass/percussion pounding rap to lilting reggae to "scream-like-a-girl" and you have surprisingly organized, beautifully orchestrated/programmed MUSICAL noise. My favorites include most of the tracks, and are too numerous to mention here, but i would suggest paying special attention to Cocaine and Toupees, Golden i, Kill the Rock, Masturbates, Planet of the Apes, among others, as I found them to be particularly interesting, both musically and vocally. The band's ability to play over and around pre-programmed electronic music exhibits particular technical skill and it appears that Little Jimmy has chosen his back up band for its ability to add to the power and then get out of his way. They don't take themselves seriously and they don't expect us to either. They do, however, take their music seriously, and seem to be "virtual" geniuses at putting it all together. If you don't "get" the odd twists and turns in life and accept them with aplomb, you won't "get" this, either. You either get it or you don't. GET IT. PLAY IT LOUD!

5.0 out of 5 stars when i say WE you say SUCK, March 21, 2004
This review is from: Frankenstein Girls Will Seem Strangely Sexy (Audio CD)
If your not familier with MSI then this is the cd to get. It's definately the most original and craziest music out there and it's got 30 tracks! Where else can you get songs about Melissa Joan Hart, Jimmy Page, toupees, 711, and the thirty-third president all on one cd? My favorite songs on this cd have to be Masturbates, Golden I, and J. Once you buy this cd and listen to it, you will either love it or hate it. If you love it, let me warn you, you will be hooked. Hooked enough to want to buy their album "Tight" (good luck finding that one) and their live set "Alienating Our Audience". If you hate it, then go buy some Celine Dion.

MSI, You'll either hate them or love them. Either way you won't be able to stop listening. If jungle mated with hip-hop and cheated on it with punk, all while playing Atari, this is what would pop out. I dare you to put this on in the car and not dance and get into a car accident. GO AHEAD TRY.

4.0 out of 5 stars Strange, but still incredible, March 11, 2002

This review is from: Frankenstein Girls Will Seem Strangely Sexy (Audio CD)
A long time ago, one of my friends popped in this cd. I was mortified. They were strange. They were too damn processed. At that point in time, I was an Ozzy fan, so anything that didn't have a guitar solo in it just wouldn't do. As time went on, I advanced to liking other bands like Faith No More, Mr. Bungle, and of course, Mindless Self Indulgence.

The thing about these guys, is that if you ever see them live, which is a rare happening, you have an all new respect for them. Sure, some of this album can even be considered rap; however, the thing about MSI is that they don't sound like anyone else. Many bands try to do this, and they succeed in the sense of sounding different, but [stink]. These guys have something about them that draws you in. It's pretty much a given that if you are a fan of System Of A Down(particularly their first album) these guys will appeal to you. The vocal style is SIMILAR, not the same. Just think high pitched, and features weird ... noises. As for the music backing it up, well, it really depends on the song. The first track, "Backmaskwarning!" is kind of this mix between punk and techno. This is actually the one song that drew me into the album. Later tracks, like "Clarissa" and "Faggot" tend to stay in the same vein and feature a nicely distorted guitar behind them.

All in all, this album will most certainly be too strange for mainstream fans. There is no question, because the music is just that different. It's incredibly creative, and will more than likely take time to wear on you. Once it does, you will never be able to put it down.

5.0 out of 5 stars THEY'RE HERE TO SCARE TEENIE BOPPERS AND PARENTS, August 28, 2000
This review is from: Frankenstein Girls Will Seem Strangely Sexy (Audio CD)
this is just plain odd,but dont let that discourage you because thats what makes it stick out.msi has to be THE craziest band ive ever heard,i mean they labeled their music as "industrial jungle pussy punk" which in all reality is probably the best label for it.really crazy and funny lyrics and extremely fast songs that last from about a minute and a half to a little over three minutes and in damn near all the songs they seamlessy flow into different beats and riffs about 10-15 times every minute and the singer(little jimmy urine)makes some of the oddest sounds with his voicebox, almost sounds kinda like a turkey gobble sometimes.anyway all the songs on here are really addictive and if youre not a follower or like experimental music that doesnt sound like korn or anything youve ever heard then check this out-later

Mindless Self Indulgence is one of the strangest sounding bands that I have ever encountered; thus the basis of their appeal. Trying to describe their sound is damn near impossible, but my stock description is "Imagine that the Atari video game system mated with punk music and bore an ambiguously queer child with a raging case of ADD... that's MSI." Even still, that description is lacking.
Track titles like "Faggot" and "Dicks are for My Friends" may appear offensive; but one must remember to take MSI with a grain of salt. In order to enjoy this disc, one must be able to drop all of the political correctness that has been beaten into our brains over the last couple decades. If you find yourself incapable of accomplishing the afore mentioned task... do not buy this album. Go for some safe and boring pop/punk because MSI is not for you.
As far as favorite songs go, I would recommend "Faggot", "Golden I", "Keepin' Up with the Kids", "Planet of the Apes", and "Seven-Eleven"... though all of the tracks are a spastic good time.

5.0 out of 5 stars The drug of all drugs!, March 26, 2007
This review is from: Frankenstein Girls Will Seem Strangely Sexy (Audio CD)
Listen to this album with an absolutely clear head to achieve your mandatory giggling fits, laughter crises, hyperactive jumping periods, obscene gestures and spastic spasms, as you will be launching headlong into an almost-hour long headtrip.

Mindless Self Indulgence is made of the spastic, iconoclastic quartet, Little Jimmy Urine, Steve Righ?, Lyn-Z and Kitty. Their mission statement is clear; fun. Dumb, blind, chaotic and downright offensive fun that doesn't bother itself with what's appropriate, or what's not.

"Frankenstein Girls Will Seem Strangely Sexy" is, as should be expected from the paragraph above, is a brainless, unrestrained, uncategorized, strange, hyperactive and overall wild album filled to the brim with a healthy touch of punk. The songs are short ("A 2 minute song just 1 minute and 59 seconds, too god damn long!"), fast-paced, laced with Urine's quirky vocal styles, Righ?'s punk-ish guitars, Kitty's extreme drums and Lyn-Z's almost absent but somehow extremely present bass.

The cardinal rule of listening to this album is to expect anything. One minute, it might be metal, the next, it might turn into hip hop, and next thing you know, it's full-blown nintendocore mixed in with trance/techno. You have to listen to this album with a clear head, like I said, to understand the sheer irony and unrestrained energy of it.

A perfect album by four zany musicians who just want to get stupid.
