Product Description
Two Horror cult classics on one DVD. First up 1965's JESSE JAMES MEETS FRANKENSTEIN'S DAUGHTER, in this fast paced horror/western infamous outlaw Jesse James (John Lupton) and his cohort Hank Tracy (Cal Bolder) get caught in a fierce gun battle during a foiled stagecoach robbery. They manage to get away, but Hank is seriously wounded. Seeking a safe haven, the outlaws stumble upon eerie hilltop mansion of Dr. Maria Frankenstein (Narda Onyx) a descendant of the notorious monster maker. Maria is faithfully carrying on her family's fiendish tradition and transplants the brain of Baron Frankenstein's original abomination into Hank's skull, thereby transforming him into a horrific creature and setting a stage for a showdown of monstrous proportions! The second feature is 1944s THE MONSTER MAKER where Dr Igor Markoff has fallen hard for Patricia, the breathtaking daughter of a famous concert pianist who just happens to resemble his deceased wife. Unfortunately the lovely girl is already engaged and worse cant stand the sight of Dr. Markoff. Enraged the mad doctor secretly injects Patricias father with a serum that slowly induces the grotesque symptoms of a disfiguring disease. An insane blackmail plot ensues whereby Markoff offers an antidote only in exchange for Patricias hand in marriage. Further complications arise when a jealous young nurse in love with Markoff discovers the sinister secrets of his past and the manner in which he achieved his medical prominence.

3.0 out of 5 stars Amusing double feature, November 16, 2008
"Jesse James Meets Frankenstein's Daughter"
Victor Frankenstein's granddaughter performs a brain transplant on the legendary titular gunslinger's beefy sidekick and reanimates him to do her bidding for about twenty minutes. Until then, there's plenty of hammy acting to enjoy and one of the silliest fistfights that I've ever seen, but these trivial pleasures don't excuse an hour of plotting as dense as rice paper in wait to see a monster without neck bolts, translucent skin, yellow eyes, black lips or anything besides a stitched noggin and sluggish demeanor to suggest that it's anything other than a normal human. In summary: too much western, too little horror, nowhere near enough monster, and plenty of cheese.

"The Monster Maker"
Obsessed with the daughter of a concert pianist because she bears an identical resemblance to his deceased wife, a mad scientist injects the virtuoso with the acromegaly virus, which produces hideous results. The lunatic scientist plans to exchange a cure for the pianist's daughter's hand in marriage, but his jealous assistant has different plans. This short feature is as cheaply made as most '40s horror B-movies, but it benefits from decent acting and a compelling story; there are worse ways to spend an hour. To illustrate how old this film is, it was rated B from the National Catholic Office for Motion Pictures back when it was known as the Legion of Decency.

This isn't a bad disc, considering that the average price for a new copy is usually about $1. Though the print of "The Monster Maker" is certainly the rougher of the two, it doesn't suffer from the prominent compression artifacts of the "Jesse James Meets Frankenstein's Daughter" video.
